DAEJEON, SOUTH KOREA – The Hanbat Arboretum, a verdant oasis in the heart of Daejeon Metropolitan City, is poised to host its annual Spring Flower Festival from May 2nd to 25th, 2025. This year's iteration, themed "Dream Seed Family Returns to the Arboretum," promises an immersive experience that transcends mere floral displays, offering a holistic celebration of nature's reawakening. The festival will unfold across the arboretum's expansive East and West Gardens, as well as the central Circular Lawn, inviting residents and tourists alike to partake in the seasonal splendor and find respite amidst the blossoming landscape.

The Hanbat Arboretum, renowned as one of the largest urban arboretums in South Korea, typically showcases a diverse collection of flora throughout the year, acting as a vital green lung for the bustling city. The spring festival, however, elevates this natural beauty with meticulously curated themed gardens and special exhibitions. This year, the iconic Rose Garden will serve as a central focal point, surrounded by an array of captivating spaces. Visitors can anticipate exploring the uniquely Korean Wildflower Jangdokdae Garden, which artfully blends traditional earthenware with vibrant native blooms, creating a harmonious juxtaposition of culture and nature. Tropical flower beds will introduce an exotic flair, showcasing vibrant hues and textures that contrast with the more temperate spring blossoms. Adding an element of surprise and discovery, pop-up gardens will offer innovative and ephemeral horticultural designs.

A significant highlight of the 2025 festival is the debut exhibition of 66 distinct varieties of Clematis. These climbing vines, carefully selected from both domestic and international sources, are celebrated for their diverse and captivating blooms. Ranging in color from pristine whites and delicate pinks to rich purples and deep reds, the Clematis display is expected to create a visually stunning and somewhat unconventional spring ambiance. The profusion of blossoms and the variety of forms will undoubtedly appeal to both avid gardeners and casual visitors seeking a touch of the extraordinary.

Recognizing the growing desire for evening leisure activities, the Daejeon Metropolitan City has significantly amplified the nighttime offerings at this year's festival. The arboretum grounds will be transformed into an enchanting nocturnal landscape through the strategic deployment of pin screens and evocative shadow lighting. These artistic installations will cast mesmerizing patterns and silhouettes across the gardens, creating a magical atmosphere that encourages visitors to linger and appreciate the late spring evenings in a novel way. This enhanced nighttime experience aims to attract a diverse audience, including families, romantic couples, and groups of friends looking for a unique after-dark outing.

Park Young-cheol, the Director-General of the Greenery, Agriculture, and Life Bureau of Daejeon Metropolitan City, emphasized the broader vision for the festival, stating, "Our goal for this year's spring flower festival is to move beyond a simple exhibition of flowers. We have focused on curating a rich tapestry of experiences, incorporating captivating night views and creatively themed gardens to offer something for everyone." He further encouraged the public to visit the Hanbat Arboretum with their loved ones, expressing hope that the festival would provide cherished memories amidst the vibrant late spring scenery.

To ensure visitors can fully plan their experience, detailed information regarding the festival schedule, specific programs, and any associated activities will be readily available on the official websites of the Daejeon Metropolitan City and the Hanbat Arboretum. These online resources will likely include information on peak bloom times for different flower varieties, locations of specific themed gardens, schedules for any guided tours or interactive events, and practical details such as opening hours and transportation options.

The Hanbat Arboretum's Spring Flower Festival not only serves as a visual feast but also plays a crucial role in promoting urban green spaces and fostering a connection between city dwellers and the natural world. Such events contribute to the overall well-being of the community, offering opportunities for relaxation, recreation, and appreciation of biodiversity. The inclusion of new and exciting elements like the extensive Clematis collection and the enhanced nighttime illumination suggests a commitment to continuous improvement and a desire to provide a fresh and engaging experience for returning visitors while attracting new ones. As May approaches, anticipation is building for the Hanbat Arboretum to once again transform into a vibrant canvas of spring colors and enchanting nighttime scenes.
