Anseong City Expects to Solve Commuting Difficulties for Workers and Revitalize the Local Economy by Operating Free Commuter Buses in Donghang Industrial Complex

Anseong City will begin operating free commuter buses for workers in the Donghang and Donghang 2 General Industrial Complexes starting June 2nd. This initiative is expected to significantly alleviate the chronic commuting inconveniences of industrial complex workers and further contribute to easing corporate recruitment difficulties and revitalizing the local economy.

Inadequate Public Transportation Infrastructure, a Long-Standing Aspiration of Industrial Complex Workers

Until now, workers at Anseong City's Donghang and Donghang 2 General Industrial Complexes have experienced significant difficulties commuting. Due to the geographical characteristics of the industrial complexes, public transportation routes were scarce and bus intervals were long, making commuting virtually impossible without a personal vehicle. In particular, for newly hired young workers or foreign workers who found it difficult to own a car, these transportation issues sometimes caused hesitation in even considering employment. This, in turn, led to recruitment difficulties for companies, resulting in a vicious cycle of decreased productivity and economic stagnation in the region.

Government Support and Local Government Efforts Pave the Way for Free Commuter Bus Operation

Anseong City's current operation of free commuter buses is not solely the result of the city's own efforts. A crucial turning point was the designation of the industrial complex as an "Industrial Complex Permitting Chartered Bus Operation for Commuting" last year. This is part of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's support project for industrial complex commuter bus operations, a system designed to alleviate transportation inconveniences for companies within industrial complexes and improve worker welfare. Furthermore, Anseong City's selection for Gyeonggi Province's "2025 Regional and Industry-Specific Job Creation Support Project" this year secured the necessary budget for the project. Such organic cooperation between the government and local authorities played a significant role in making this free commuter bus operation a reality.

Detailed Operation Plan: Efficient Routes and Convenient Usage Environment

The free commuter buses will operate four times a day on weekdays (two trips for morning commute, two for evening commute). The route starts from Hankyong National University, passes through Chung-Ang University, Lotte Castle Apartments, Lotte Mart, and Yangseong Intersection, and then proceeds to the Donghang and Donghang 2 General Industrial Complexes. This demonstrates Anseong City's effort to maximize accessibility for workers by passing through major residential and commercial areas of Anseong City. Any worker employed by a company in either of the two industrial complexes, regardless of nationality, can use the service for free, ensuring practical benefits for all workers experiencing commuting burdens.

Expected Effects: Beyond Worker Welfare to Local Economic Revitalization

The head of Anseong City's Advanced Industry Division emphasized, "The operation of free commuter buses will not only resolve workers' transportation inconveniences but also positively impact companies' recruitment difficulties." From the workers' perspective, direct benefits include reduced commuting time and transportation costs, which directly lead to an improved quality of life. For companies, it helps create an environment conducive to attracting excellent talent, thereby contributing to increased productivity.

In the long term, it is expected to lead to the revitalization of the industrial complexes, injecting vitality into the entire local economy. Improved commuting conditions can increase the influx of workers residing in the outer areas of Anseong City, which can strengthen the competitiveness of the industrial complexes and lead to more job creation. Additionally, reduced private car usage due to commuter bus utilization can contribute to alleviating traffic congestion and reducing carbon emissions, thereby helping to create an environmentally friendly industrial complex.

Continuous Improvement Through Pilot Operation Period

Anseong City plans to designate the first month of free commuter bus operation as a pilot period to actively solicit user feedback and identify areas for improvement to ensure the early establishment of the service. This demonstrates Anseong City's strong commitment to not just operating buses, but also to increasing actual user satisfaction and providing stable service. During the pilot period, various improvement measures such as route adjustments, schedule changes, and additional bus stops can be discussed, which is expected to provide workers with an optimized commuting environment.

Enhanced Information Accessibility: Transparent and Prompt Information Provision

Anseong City is guiding users to check detailed operating times and bus stop locations through notices on the Anseong City website. This is an important measure to increase the convenience of service use by allowing workers to easily and quickly obtain necessary information. Anseong City is expected to continue actively promoting and providing information to ensure that many workers can utilize the free commuter bus service.

Anseong City's initiative to operate free commuter buses goes beyond a simple transportation welfare project; it will be a crucial cornerstone for strengthening the competitiveness of industrial complexes and revitalizing the local economy. It is hoped that this will become an exemplary case of win-win cooperation among workers, companies, and the entire local community.
