INCHEON, SOUTH KOREA – The Namdong-gu Urban Management Corporation (NDUMC) in Incheon is actively demonstrating its commitment to environmental sustainability through a recent ‘Plant Trees to Reduce Carbon, Add Greenery: Carbon Neutral Tree Planting’ campaign. Held at the verdant grounds of the corporation's headquarters, the initiative saw the enthusiastic participation of 20 employees, including the esteemed Chairman Kim Seok-woo.

Spearheaded by the corporation's leadership, the campaign's primary objective was to cultivate a deeper understanding of carbon neutrality among its workforce and to encourage proactive engagement in environmental stewardship across all levels of the organization. By engaging in hands-on tree planting, NDUMC aimed to translate abstract environmental goals into tangible actions, fostering a sense of ownership and responsibility among its employees.

During the event, NDUMC employees carefully planted approximately 100 saplings of various flowering shrubs, including the vibrant Royal Azalea (Rhododendron schlippenbachii), the delicate Korean Azalea (Rhododendron yedoense var. poukhanense), and the rich-hued Crimson Azalea (Rhododendron obtusum). This thoughtful selection of flora not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of the corporation's green spaces but also contributes to local biodiversity and provides valuable habitats for urban wildlife.

Beyond the immediate environmental benefits, the initiative also carried a significant local economic impact. NDUMC consciously chose to procure all the necessary saplings and planting materials through the Namdong-gu Forestry Cooperative. This strategic decision injected financial support into the local economy, reinforcing the corporation's role as a responsible community partner.

Employees who actively participated in the tree planting campaign expressed a sense of fulfillment and pride in contributing to the well-being of their local environment. One participant remarked, "Even though it was a small effort, it felt like a meaningful contribution to the environment of our community."

Chairman Kim Seok-woo emphasized the significance of the campaign as a practical step towards carbon neutrality within the organization's daily operations. "This tree planting initiative serves as an exemplary model of how our corporation can integrate carbon neutral practices into our everyday activities," stated Chairman Kim. "As a public institution, we are deeply committed to environmental protection and the realization of a sustainable society, and we will continue to pursue initiatives that align with these crucial values."

The Namdong-gu Urban Management Corporation's tree planting campaign underscores a growing trend among public and private entities in South Korea to actively engage in carbon reduction and environmental preservation efforts. By combining practical action with a commitment to local economic development, NDUMC has set a commendable example for other organizations seeking to make a tangible difference in the fight against climate change and the promotion of a greener future.
