Daejeon Metropolitan City has established the "Daejeon Metropolitan City Volunteer Sharing Kitchen" by remodeling the existing space on the first floor of Cheongchundarak in Jung-dong, Dong-gu, and held its opening ceremony on the 7th. This initiative aims to provide a more conducive environment for volunteer activities and foster community engagement through shared resources.
The opening ceremony was attended by approximately 100 people, including Daejeon Mayor Lee Jang-woo, Daejeon City Council Chairman Cho Won-hwi, Dong-gu Deputy Mayor Cho Sung-jik, Daejeon Volunteer Center Chairman Koo Ja-sun, Center Director Kim Hyun-ho, Volunteer Association Chairman Kim Young-tae, Jang Pil-gyu (Managing Director of Hyundai Department Store Outlet), Park Jae-sung (Branch Manager of Hyundai Premium Outlets Daejeon), Kim Ju-hyung (Managing Director of Hankook Tire & Technology), and numerous volunteers, all celebrating the opening of the sharing kitchen.
The ceremony proceeded with a progress report, followed by a donation ceremony, ribbon-cutting, facility tour, and a meal service volunteer activity.
During the donation ceremony, Hyundai Premium Outlets Daejeon (50 million KRW) and Hankook Tire & Technology Daejeon Plant (14.4 million KRW), both of which have social contribution agreements with Daejeon City and the Volunteer Center, donated essential items for the operation of the sharing kitchen. These contributions will significantly aid in equipping the kitchen with necessary facilities such as baking equipment, enhancing the capacity for various volunteer activities.
Following the opening, the Daejeon City Volunteer Association's "Happy Home" meal service utilized the newly opened sharing kitchen. Dignitaries, including Mayor Lee and other attendees, joined the volunteer effort, serving Samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup), rice cakes, and fruits to approximately 100 underprivileged individuals, including low-income seniors living alone, conveying warmth and care to the community.
The "Volunteer Sharing Kitchen" is equipped to prepare meals for up to 100 people and features large-scale cooking appliances, kitchenware, tables, and chairs. It will be open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, excluding public holidays. Organizations and groups wishing to utilize the space can apply for rental through the Daejeon Metropolitan City Social Innovation Center.
A representative from Daejeon City stated, "This space is more than just a cooking facility; it will serve as a warm platform for communication among neighbors and strengthening the community bond. We will continue to expand the volunteer culture so that it becomes a resting place and a venue for sharing for more volunteers in the future."
