Ansan – Ansan City announced that it will host the '2025 Ansan Citizens' Environmental Festival' at Ansan Cultural Plaza in Gojan-dong on June 7, in commemoration of World Environment Day. This event is designed as a venue for citizens and the local community to practice and communicate together, recognizing the severity of the climate crisis and promoting the transition to a carbon-neutral society.

Co-hosted by seven organizations, including the Ansan City Sustainable Development Council and the Gyeonggi-do Ansan Office of Education, and sponsored by Ansan City, Ansan Urban Development Co., Ltd., and Hanyang University ERICA Campus, this environmental festival focuses on raising environmental awareness and encouraging eco-friendly lifestyle practices through active citizen participation.

My Small Practice, The Beginning of an Eco-Friendly Life

Under the slogan 'My Small Practice, The Beginning of an Eco-Friendly Life,' a variety of programs will welcome visitors. The event will begin with a celebratory performance by the Ansan City Choir, followed by awards for environmental contributors, prizes for the Sustainable Development Art Contest, and an environmental performance, adding to the meaning of the event.

In particular, this event has prepared abundant side events that citizens can directly participate in and experience, to enhance their understanding of environmental issues and encourage action. These include the 'Challenge Green Bell' quiz contest to test environmental knowledge, and the 'Na-num Jang-teo Eol-ssu (Earth) Market' which promotes the values of resource recycling and sharing.

Additionally, various environmental experience booths will offer opportunities to learn and directly experience eco-friendly practices applicable in daily life, such as waste recycling, energy saving, and biodiversity conservation. The solar energy experience booth will raise awareness about the importance of renewable energy and spark interest in future energy sources. Furthermore, an exhibition of winning entries from the National Children's Contest for Sustainable Development will share future generations' perceptions of the environment, and the 'Companion Tumbler Campaign' will encourage reducing plastic use in daily life.

Plastic-Free Event, Efforts for a Sustainable Future

It is noteworthy that this '2025 Ansan Citizens' Environmental Festival' will be held as a 'Plastic-Free Event' for the second consecutive year. The use of single-use plastic containers will be completely restricted within the venue, and the use of reusable containers and personal tumblers will be actively encouraged, setting an example for eco-friendly events. This is regarded as an example of Ansan City's strong commitment to actual carbon neutrality, beyond just an environmental campaign.

Ansan City has made various efforts for sustainable urban development. Representative examples include: △expanding waste treatment facilities and improving recycling rates to strengthen resource circulation systems, △protecting wetlands and expanding urban forest creation for ecosystem preservation, and △increasing the supply of renewable energy for energy transition. This environmental festival is part of these efforts and will serve as an important opportunity for citizens to share awareness of environmental issues and commit to action.

Recently, climate change has emerged as a serious global issue, and the transition to a carbon-neutral society has become a necessity, not an option. Ansan City is at the forefront of reducing carbon emissions and creating a sustainable ecosystem in line with these时代 demands. The 'Ansan Citizens' Environmental Festival' is an important event that shows citizens their responsibility for environmental issues and that small actions can lead to big changes.

Ansan Mayor Lee Min-geun stated, "We will strive to create a sustainable future by practicing carbon neutrality and preserving ecosystems together with citizens," and "We ask for the active participation and support of our citizens." Through this event, it is hoped that Ansan citizens will once again recognize the importance of environmental protection and practice eco-friendly habits in their daily lives.
