Daejeon, South Korea – The city of Daejeon has announced stricter verification measures for its public bike sharing service, TASHU, starting from January 7th. The move aims to curb unauthorized use, misappropriation, and damage to the bikes.
All existing TASHU app users, including those who have been using the service for a while, will be required to complete the new verification process. To do so, users must update the TASHU app on their smartphones. Once updated, the app will initiate the verification process, prompting users to select their mobile carrier and choose between SMS or PASS authentication. Users will then need to input their personal information, including name, date of birth, and phone number.
As a result of this system upgrade, TASHU service will be temporarily unavailable from 12:00 AM to 5:00 AM on January 7th. For inquiries regarding the update, users can contact the TASHU customer service center at 1899-2282. Please note that there may be delays in connecting with customer service during peak hours.
TASHU has seen a significant surge in popularity in recent years. In 2022, the service recorded 5.69 million uses, a remarkable 11-fold increase compared to the 520,000 uses in 2021. This growth underscores TASHU's position as a leading short-distance transportation option in Daejeon.
Daejeon Mayor Lee Jang-woo expressed his satisfaction with the growing popularity of TASHU, stating, "Daejeon has one of the highest public bike sharing usage rates in the country. We will continue to expand the TASHU service to meet the increasing demand from our citizens and make Daejeon a world-class cycling city. We urge all citizens to complete the verification process and use TASHU responsibly."
