The 22nd Americas Regional Meeting of the Democratic Peaceful Unification Advisory Council (DPUC) was successfully held under the theme of “Global Solidarity for Peaceful Coexistence on the Korean Peninsula” from September 1 to 4 at the Inspire Resort in Incheon. The meeting brought together approximately 1,350 advisory members (750 on-site, 600 online) from 24 countries in the Americas, including the United States, Canada, and Brazil, to explore public diplomacy measures for settling peace on the Korean Peninsula. Among them, a total of 48 advisory members belonging to the Washington Chapter (President Park Jun-hyung) attended this 22nd DPUC Americas Regional Meeting.

President Lee, who serves as the Chairman of the DPUC, attended the event in person on its second day, reflecting on the historical significance of Incheon as the starting point of the Korean diaspora in the Americas and expressing gratitude for the dedication of the overseas Korean community. Emphasizing the need to transition the armistice system into a peace system, President Lee requested that advisory members devise specific implementation plans locally based on the “Three Blueprints for Peaceful Coexistence” presented in the Liberation Day congratulatory address. In addition, he underscored the role of advisory members as “public diplomats” communicating with mainstream society and citizens in their countries of residence, and urged their active participation in the core initiative, the “One Million Global Citizens Interview.”

Key Meetings and Network Programs Government Policy Sharing: A keynote address was delivered by Senior Vice Chairman Kang Chang-il, followed by a work report by Secretary-General Bang Yong-seung. Minister of Unification Chung Dong-young then took the floor to specifically explain the current administration’s policy direction for peaceful coexistence on the Korean Peninsula and the roles of advisory members.

On-Site Idea Proposals: Advisory members directly proposed a variety of policy ideas leveraging their local experiences to President Lee, such as promoting peace tourism in Wonsan and Galma, expanding Junior DPUC activities, and conducting public diplomacy targeting the U.S. Congress.

Capacity-Building Roundtable Meetings: Hosted by the Youth and Public Diplomacy Subcommittees during the conference period, outstanding regional activity cases were shared, and in-depth discussions were held on ways to expand the participation of the next generation and build networks tailored to the characteristics of each country.

Based on the policy consensus derived from this event, participants signed the “Pledge for Peace, Promise for Action” performance and resolved to take the lead in global solidarity for peace on the Korean Peninsula within their countries of residence.
