Family stories from Jochiwon brought to life through painting, with 40 Sejong citizens participating

The Sejong Arts Center successfully concluded its family-participatory public art program, the "Come Play! Parking Lot Canvas Project," at its outdoor parking lot on October 17.

This project was designed to express memories and daily stories of life in Jochiwon through paintings on the pavement of the Sejong Arts Center parking lot, completing it as a single piece of public art. It was organized to transform an ordinary parking space into an artistic venue infused with citizens' stories, creating a space where Sejong citizens can appreciate the artwork and capture memories through photographs.

Amidst applications from over 100 families, 10 families comprising 40 participants were ultimately selected to take part in the project. Based on stories submitted in advance, the participating families expressed their respective narratives through paintings, filling various corners of the parking lot with unique creations to complete a unified public art space.

This project was a collaborative effort among the Sejong Arts Center, the Anchor Project Group of Hongik University's Sejong Campus, and the Dangrim Museum. Through this citizen-participatory cultural arts program, the venue expanded its role beyond a mere performance hall into a space where people can experience and enjoy culture and art in their daily lives.

Lee So-ra (40), a resident of Jochiwon who participated in the event, shared, "It was even more meaningful to see our family's story painted in the outdoor parking lot of the Sejong Arts Center, a place we usually visit just to watch performances. I want to visit frequently in the future to look at the paintings and cherish memories with my family."

The paintings drawn on the parking lot pavement will remain on display in the outdoor parking lot of the Sejong Arts Center even after the conclusion of the event. In addition, a photo-verification event themed "A 100-Day Story Created by 10 Families" will run until January 2027 to promote the Sejong Arts Center as a new photo spot.
