“If thrown away, it’s pollution; if collected, it’s a resource” — Buyeo-gun catches two hares with one stone: environmental protection and resource circulation through waste battery collection

Buyeo-gun is launching a concentrated collection of waste batteries for the month of November to prevent environmental pollution and revitalize resource recycling.

Waste batteries contain harmful heavy metals such as mercury and manganese, which can cause serious environmental problems by polluting soil and water if discarded as regular trash. On the other hand, if properly separated and discharged, valuable metal resources such as iron, zinc, and nickel can be recovered, significantly contributing to the resource circulation economy.

Accordingly, Buyeo-gun is operating a concentrated collection period for waste batteries until November 30 to increase the separate collection volume of recyclable resources per resident and prevent environmental pollution.

The collection will take place at each eup and myeon administrative welfare center in the jurisdiction, and the targets for collection are waste batteries and auxiliary batteries (power banks). Residents can bring waste batteries and unused auxiliary batteries kept at home to the nearest eup and myeon administrative welfare center.

Meanwhile, Buyeo-gun will hold the '2026 Hidden Resource Gathering Contest' targeting the Saemaul Undong Buyeo-gun Branch for two days on November 17 and 18 at the Buyeo-gun Recycling Sorting Facility. At this event, activities to collect agricultural waste such as waste vinyl and waste pesticide containers, as well as various recyclables, will be carried out, along with the collection of waste batteries.

An official from Buyeo-gun said, “Waste batteries are small in size, but their impact on the environment is by no means small,” adding, “We hope that through the active participation of our residents, we can create a clean Buyeo and a resource-circular Buyeo.”
