Sejong Showcases Esports Excellence to Thai Delegation

SEJONG, South Korea—A delegation of key Thai esports figures visited Sejong City on November 6 to engage in international cultural exchange and study the city's successful model for managing and developing its esports scene.

The Sejong Special Self-Governing City government, led by Mayor Choi Min-ho, hosted the 35-member Thai delegation at the City Hall's Book and Culture Center, alongside Sejong's affiliated esports team, FN Sejong. The meeting focused on exploring close international cooperation through the medium of esports.

Thailand is recognized as a nation rapidly advancing its esports industry, notably having granted esports official professional sports status in recent years.

The visiting group was highly specialized, including representatives from Suan Sunandha Rajabhat (SSRU) University—the only Thai institution offering an esports-related academic major—along with officials from government agencies and private sector enterprises.

This visit marks the second consecutive year a Thai delegation has come to Sejong, specifically arranged to observe and confirm FN Sejong's systematic player development program.

During the visit, the delegation was briefed on the details of Sejong City's affiliated team operations, reviewing cooperative projects with FN Sejong and listening to presentations on the team's operational achievements.

A key highlight was an exhibition match featuring FN Sejong players Hong Ji-hong and Lee Won-sang. The duo, who secured the runner-up position in this year's Korean Esports League (KEL) finals, demonstrated their skills in the mobile soccer game FC Mobile.

The Thai visitors expressed their commitment to strengthening cultural exchange and collaborative projects related to esports with Sejong City following this successful engagement.

Mayor Choi Min-ho highlighted Sejong's suitability for leading the esports sector. "As our city has a relatively young average age of approximately 39, we are a prime location with high expectations for the development of the esports industry," Mayor Choi stated. "We will continue to foster international cooperation, starting with Thailand and extending to other countries interested in esports."

The city’s dedication to the industry is underscored by its regional affiliation agreement with FN Sejong, which was established in 2023 to ensure continuous support and attention for the local esports sector.
