SEOUL, South Korea – Kia has pulled the wraps off the second-generation of its popular subcompact SUV, the Seltos, unveiling a completely redesigned model after six years since its original debut. Named 'The All New Seltos,' the vehicle was revealed to the world via a digital premiere on December 10, with a major focus on diversifying its powertrain options and significantly enhancing its overall product value.

The launch of the new Seltos is a critical move for Kia, which aims to secure its position in the competitive global SUV market. The automaker announced plans to commence delivery in Korea in the first quarter of next year, followed by sequential rollouts in key global markets including North America, Europe, and China. Kia's aggressive sales target for the new model is set at over 430,000 units annually worldwide.

Hybrid Power and AI Technology at the Forefront

The most notable update is the introduction of a 1.6-liter Hybrid model, a first for the Seltos lineup. This addition directly addresses the growing consumer demand for greater fuel efficiency and eco-friendly options, strategically positioning the Seltos to serve as a bridge toward the era of full electrification.

"It will take some time to reach complete electrification," explained Ryu Chang-seung, Head of Kia's Customer Experience Division. "We created the Seltos Hybrid model, thinking of it as a stepping stone toward the electric vehicle era."
The new Seltos will be operated with two main powertrains: the new 1.6-liter Hybrid and an updated 1.6-liter Turbo Gasoline engine. The gasoline variant retains its robust performance, delivering a maximum output of 193 horsepower and 27.0 kgf·m of torque. Furthermore, the all-wheel-drive (4WD) option for the gasoline model is equipped with a specialized Terrain Mode, enhancing its off-road capability for outdoor enthusiasts. Kia has confirmed that, for the time being, there are no immediate plans for a pure Battery Electric Vehicle (EV) version of the Seltos.

Inside, the compact SUV has been brought into the future with the integration of Kia AI Assistant, an in-vehicle system powered by generative artificial intelligence (AI) technology. This assistant aims to simplify tasks like navigation, vehicle control, entertainment, and knowledge searches, providing a more intuitive and connected user experience.

Increased Size and Enhanced Safety

Beyond the powertrain, the All New Seltos has undergone a full-scale transformation in design and dimensions, addressing customer feedback for more interior space. The vehicle has grown considerably, with a total length of 4,460mm (an increase of 95mm) and a wheelbase stretched to 2,690mm (an 80mm increase), which translates to notably more generous second-row legroom and a best-in-class luggage capacity of 536 liters.

The exterior boasts a bold, aggressive, and more refined design, featuring a wider front grille that merges with the vertical lighting elements and connected LED tail lamps at the rear. High-end trims like the X-Line will offer specialized design packages.

Safety has also been significantly upgraded. The new Seltos incorporates a multi-bone structure and expanded use of ultra-high-strength steel for reinforced collision safety. It is equipped with a total of nine airbags and a comprehensive suite of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), including Highway Driving Assist 2 (HDA 2) and Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA), ensuring a high level of protection for all occupants.

The second-generation Kia Seltos promises to be a game-changer in the subcompact SUV segment, combining a new eco-conscious option with segment-leading technology and a larger, safer platform.
