With Gamescom 2025, the world's largest game exhibition, just a month away, the eyes of the global gaming industry are fixed on Cologne, Germany. Especially with the closure of E3, North America's largest game show, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Gamescom has solidified its position as the undisputed largest gaming festival in the world. Last year, it broke its all-time record with 1,462 companies from 64 countries participating and attracting 335,000 visitors, including 32,000 business-to-business (B2B) visitors, clearly demonstrating Gamescom's business value.

Nintendo Switch 2, Gamescom 2025's Most Anticipated Title

Undoubtedly, the biggest expectation at this Gamescom 2025 is Nintendo's new console, the 'Switch 2'. Although Nintendo did not participate in Gamescom last year, they have announced their full participation this year, unveiling a successor after eight years since the original Switch's release. The industry expects Nintendo to make significant investments in this Gamescom to fully explore global market expansion. The Switch 2 is anticipated to carry on the success of its predecessor, combining the advantages of portability and home console features, while also showcasing enhanced graphics processing capabilities and performance. Although detailed specifications and release dates are still under wraps, their outline is expected to be revealed at this Gamescom, drawing keen interest from gamers worldwide.

Hot Calls from Korean Game Companies, Aiming Squarely at the PC and Console Market

Korean game companies, known for their strength in mobile games, are also showing keen interest in Gamescom. Major domestic game companies such as Krafton, Pearl Abyss, Kakao Games, Wemade Max, and NCSoft have confirmed their participation in Gamescom, proving the heightened interest of the Korean gaming industry in the PC and console market.

An industry official emphasized, "Participating in Gamescom is a golden opportunity for a company to announce its focused investment in the PC and console sectors and showcase its games to the global market." It is widely believed that proving their PC and console game capabilities at Gamescom is essential to target the North American market, which has a strong demand for PC and console games. The Koelnmesse exhibition center, where Gamescom is held, boasts a size 12 times larger than BEXCO, where Korea's largest game show G-STAR is held, providing an optimal environment for global marketing. Since success for global publishing games relies more on overseas market performance than domestic, Gamescom serves as a crucial bridgehead for Korean game companies to enter the global market.

A Sneak Peek at Major Exhibitions from Korean Game Companies

Each game company plans to capture the hearts of global gamers by showcasing ambitious new titles and highly anticipated games at Gamescom.

Krafton: Will present new console and PC titles 'inZOI' and the tactical shooting game 'PUBG: Blind Spot', as well as the steady seller 'PUBG: Battlegrounds'. They plan to operate an on-site booth, providing opportunities for game demonstrations and direct communication between users and developers. Particularly, 'inZOI', a life simulation game boasting realistic graphics, is generating significant anticipation among gamers. 'PUBG: Blind Spot', a new genre game utilizing the Battlegrounds IP, is expected to offer a new experience for shooting game fans.

Pearl Abyss: Will exhibit 'Crimson Desert', a console and PC-based open-world action game scheduled for release in the fourth quarter of this year. 'Crimson Desert' has already proven its potential by being nominated for 'Best Visual' and 'Most Epic' at last year's Gamescom awards. Through its participation in this Gamescom, 'Crimson Desert' is expected to undergo final validation from users worldwide ahead of its official release in the second half of the year. 'Crimson Desert' features spectacular battles and an immersive story set in a vast open world, boasting high-quality graphics and action.

Kakao Games: Will unveil 'God Save Birmingham', an open-world zombie survival simulator. This is a premium indie game developed by Kakao Games' subsidiary Ocean Drive Studio and published by Kakao Games. It will first be released on Steam as a pre-order before officially launching on console platforms such as PlayStation and Xbox. Through its participation in Gamescom, Kakao Games aims to further strengthen its position as a domestic and international publisher. This game requires strategic play, fighting zombies and gathering resources for survival in a post-apocalyptic world.

Wemade Max: Will reveal 'Midnight Walkers', a new PC and console title currently under development. This extraction game focuses on zombie survival and is scheduled for pre-orders in the fourth quarter. This game is expected to offer a thrilling experience of exploring dangerous zones with clear objectives of securing resources and escaping.

NCSoft: Its North American subsidiary, NC America, will operate a booth in the Gamescom B2B area. An NCSoft official stated, "We are preparing to showcase our global lineup for this year and next year," adding, "We plan to introduce new titles and videos, conduct interviews, and provide game demonstrations for global partners and industry officials." As NCSoft has accumulated extensive experience and know-how in the MMORPG field, it remains to be seen what new genres or innovative technologies they will unveil at this Gamescom.

Gamescom 2025: A Glimpse into the Future of the Global Gaming Market

Gamescom 2025 is more than just a game exhibition; it's a crucial event offering a glimpse into the present and future of the global gaming market. From major new console titles like the Nintendo Switch 2 to innovative PC and console games and various indie games, Gamescom will present a wide spectrum of games to delight gamers. Furthermore, given its high B2B component, it is expected to be an important platform for exploring trends and business opportunities in the gaming industry. The anticipation among global game fans is growing as they wonder what amazing new titles will be revealed and what new technologies will gain attention at this Gamescom.
