Ten unique Hangeul-themed programs running through November 28 at local cultural spaces like Hangeul Shops

SEJONG — The Sejong City Foundation for Tourism and Culture (CEO Park Young-kook) announced that it is currently recruiting local participants for the "2026 Hangeul Citizen Artist Planning Program," which runs through Saturday, November 28.

This initiative is designed to bring Hangeul culture and arts directly to the public through educational programs developed by local Hangeul artists. By offering these interactive sessions, the Foundation aims to expand citizens' access to Hangeul cultural arts while establishing a sustainable platform for locally nurtured artists to thrive.

Diverse Programs Across Ten Artistic Troupes

A total of ten local arts organizations, who completed the Foundation's 2025 Hangeul Artist Training Program, are spearheading this year's sessions. Participating groups include the Sejong Haneul Minhwa Association, Art Studio Meme, Art Yeda, Sejong Blue Flame in Art, Sejong Hangeul Calligraphy Association, Modu’s Noriteo, International Art Company MOM Social Cooperative, Hannuri Gugakwon, Culture and Arts Education Institute Rock, and Dada Prism.

Citizens can experience Hangeul through a wide spectrum of genres, including fine arts, theater, traditional Korean music (gugak), contemporary music, and multidisciplinary arts.

Highlighted Programs Feature Art, Science, and Movement

The curated lineup offers tailored experiences for various age groups and demographics:

Visual Arts & Crafts: Traditional folk painting (Minhwa) workshops ("Dreaming Through Hangeul"), mobile-making ("If My Name Danced Like a Hangeul Mobile"), traditional wrapping cloth crafts ("Wrapping Hangeul with Bojagi"), and artistic documentation projects.
Performing Arts & Music: Adult mime and physical expression ("Today, What My Body Says"), rhythmic Nanta drumming ("Falling into Hangeul Rhythms! Exciting Nanta!"), and interactive music sessions ("Hangeul Pops, Music Drops").
Inclusive & Community Projects: Science-art fusion workshops for disabled and non-disabled adults ("My Light, My Hangeul"), community-building architectural art ("Apart+Artist: Building a Hangeul Village"), and immersive storytelling games ("The Hangeul Witch's Secret Shop: Find the Lost Name").

Most sessions are held at Hangeul cultural complexes, such as local Hangeul Shops. Each session lasts approximately two hours, accommodating groups of 15 to 20 participants, though specific age requirements and eligibility vary by program.

High Satisfaction and How to Apply

Reflecting on a previous session held last month—where a participant made Hangeul typography traditional fans with her two elementary school children—one attendee shared, "It was wonderful to introduce my children to Minhwa and Munjado (text painting). Experiencing it through Hangeul made it deeply meaningful, and I hope to see many more programs like this in the future."

Local residents interested in participating can apply on a first-come, first-served basis by completing the Google Forms link posted on the "Hangeul Culture City Sejong" Instagram page or the official Sejong City Foundation for Tourism and Culture website.
