"A Warm Winter with Neighbors": Buyeo County Grants 200,000 Won per Household for Low-Income Heating Costs

Total of 36 Million Won in Winter Heating Subsidies Provided to 180 Vulnerable Households

Buyeo County has announced the launch of the “2026 Low-Income Household Winter Heating Support Project” to help vulnerable families facing financial hardships stay warm through the harsh winter months.

Designed to assist low-income residents who struggle to maintain adequate heating due to surging winter utility bills, this initiative will provide a total of 36 million won ($26,000 USD approx.) to 180 selected households across the county, with each receiving 200,000 won.

The eligible recipients include basic livelihood security beneficiaries and low-income families with an income at or below 100% of the median standard. Many individuals in these groups often compromise their health during winter by reducing heating to cut costs. For vulnerable populations—such as the elderly, people with disabilities, and single-parent households—utility bills place a heavy strain on household finances, making this targeted assistance a practical relief.

Applications are processed through the "Happy e-Um" administrative system. Local administrative welfare centers will identify and recommend eligible candidates by November 13.

A county official stated, "Every winter, many low-income families suffer from the heavy burden of heating expenses. We hope this seasonal support will help marginalized neighbors in our community spend a slightly warmer winter."

Buyeo County implements this winter heating support program annually in collaboration with Chungcheongnam-do and the Community Chest of Korea (Chungnam branch). Funded through the Chungnam Fruit of Love campaign, the project continues to receive high praise for spreading a culture of sharing and reinforcing regional welfare safety nets.
