Mayor Jeon Jae-soo stated, "We will continue to strengthen Busan's cultural infrastructure to ensure stable creative environments for local artists and realize a 'City of Cultural Rights'."
BUSAN — The Busan Metropolitan Government announced the successful completion of the Busan Arts Center Performance Hall Remodeling Project, aimed at providing a state-of-the-art space for local artists and an upgraded cultural experience for citizens.
The renovation project, which took place from 2025 to 2026 with an investment of approximately 1.5 billion KRW in municipal funds, directly addressed long-standing concerns regarding space constraints and aging infrastructure. Key improvements include a newly expanded stage, completely replaced seating, and modernized facility systems designed to foster a more dynamic and comfortable performance environment.
Originally opened in March 2011 and currently operated by the Busan Metropolitan Council of Arts (Busan Yeochong), the center has served as a cornerstone for local artistic creation and public presentations.
With the construction finalized, the Busan Arts Center will resume venue rentals starting in November. The upgraded stage and seating are expected to seamlessly accommodate a wide variety of genres, offering local audiences a significantly elevated cultural viewing experience.
Moving forward, the city plans to work closely with the Busan Yeochong to maximize operational efficiency and user satisfaction. This includes continuous facility maintenance, active integration of user feedback, and transparent rental management to provide local artists with more opportunities to perform while making arts and culture more accessible to the everyday lives of citizens.
"The Busan Arts Center is a vital space where local artists can unleash their creative passion and connect with citizens through art," said Busan Mayor Jeon Jae-soo. "We remain committed to expanding our cultural infrastructure so that local artists can create with stability and every citizen can easily enjoy culture in their daily lives, ultimately realizing a 'City of Cultural Rights, Busan'."
