SK hynix CEO Kwak Noh-jung Meets Bill Gates and Satya Nadella to Solidify AI Memory Alliance

REDMOND, Wash. — In a strategic move to cement its leadership in the booming Artificial Intelligence (AI) sector, Kwak Noh-jung, President and CEO of SK hynix, has embarked on a series of high-level meetings with global tech titans, including Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates and CEO Satya Nadella.

According to industry sources on May 12, 2026, Kwak is attending the 'Microsoft CEO Summit 2026' held at Microsoft’s headquarters in Redmond, Washington. This marks his return to the prestigious event following his attendance in 2024, signaling SK hynix's indispensable role in the global AI hardware supply chain.

A Private Hub for Global Visionaries
The Microsoft CEO Summit is an ultra-exclusive, invitation-only gathering that brings together the world’s most influential chief executives and industry experts. Unlike public tech conferences, this summit functions as a private network for discussing long-term technological trends and business strategies behind closed doors.

Participation from the South Korean business community remains highly selective. While SK hynix represents the semiconductor vanguard, Hong Beom-shik, CEO of LG Uplus, was reportedly the only other representative from the South Korean telecommunications and ICT sector to receive an invitation this year.

The highlight of the summit is expected to be a formal dinner hosted personally by Bill Gates. Held at Gates' private residence, this legendary social fixture recently resumed after a hiatus. Industry insiders suggest that Kwak’s likely presence at this dinner underscores the deepening ties between the South Korean memory giant and the architects of the modern computing era.

Strengthening the "HBM Alliance"
The core objective of Kwak’s visit is widely believed to be the expansion of High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) supply. As the AI revolution accelerates, the demand for high-performance memory—capable of processing vast amounts of data at lightning speeds—has reached unprecedented levels.

SK hynix and Microsoft have already established a formidable partnership. Microsoft is a major client, sourcing substantial volumes of DRAM and NAND flash from the Korean manufacturer. Most notably, SK hynix’s 5th-generation HBM, known as HBM3E, is currently integrated into Microsoft’s custom AI accelerator, the 'Maia 200'.

Microsoft has already deployed the Maia 200 chips in its Iowa data centers and is reportedly expanding their use to facilities in Arizona. As Microsoft continues to scale its AI infrastructure to support services like Azure AI and Copilot, the reliance on SK hynix’s cutting-edge memory solutions is expected to grow exponentially.

Securing Long-Term Stability in a Tight Market
The global semiconductor market is currently facing a "tight" supply-demand balance due to the rapid proliferation of generative AI. Analysts view Kwak’s presence in Redmond as a proactive strategy to secure long-term supply stability for key customers and to discuss co-development for next-generation AI memory (such as HBM4 and beyond).

"CEO Kwak's diplomatic outreach at the summit is about more than just current sales; it's about defining the roadmap for the next decade of AI infrastructure," said an industry analyst. "By engaging directly with the leadership of Microsoft, SK hynix ensures it remains the 'first mover' in the high-end memory market."

Beyond Microsoft, the summit provides a unique stage for Kwak to interact with other tech leaders. SK hynix is currently diversifying its AI memory portfolio through collaborations with Nvidia, Google, and Amazon Web Services (AWS). The discussions held this week in Washington could pave the way for new partnerships, further insulating SK hynix against market volatility and solidifying its position as the "AI Memory Provider of Choice."

As the summit concludes, the tech world will be watching closely for signs of renewed long-term contracts or joint technological ventures that may emerge from these high-stakes, private discussions.
