CHEONAN — The Cheonan Addiction Management and Integration Center announced on November 5 that it will host a citizen-participatory addiction prevention campaign during the 4th Haneulmot Water Light Festival in Sinan-dong, scheduled for November 7.
As part of the initiative to foster Sinan-dong—designated as an "Addiction-Free Happy Village"—the center is collaborating with the local community's Tongjang (Neighborhood Leaders) Association and Residents' Representative Council. Together, they plan to roll out customized prevention programs tailored to festival attendees.
The campaign focuses heavily on improving accessibility to prevention education, ensuring that growing children, adolescents, and young adults build a correct understanding of addiction issues and learn to make healthy choices in high-risk situations. A variety of hands-on experiential programs have been prepared for visitors.
Key activities include:
Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT): Screening tools for self-assessment.
Virtual Reality (VR) Drug Prevention Experience: An immersive program highlighting the dangers of narcotics.
Simulated Drunk Driving / Impairment Goggles: Experiential glasses demonstrating the physical and cognitive impacts of alcohol.
In addition, the center will run a promotional zone featuring "Darami," its official mascot, alongside a message-sharing wall and a roulette wheel event. These engaging features are designed to naturally draw individuals of all ages—from children to adults—into the prevention activities.
Through this campaign, the center aims to expand prevention efforts directly into residents' daily spaces and continuously build a grassroots, community-driven safety net that proactively responds to addiction issues.
"Local festivals bringing together children, teenagers, and young adults provide a wonderful platform to spread awareness about the importance of addiction prevention," said Sung Jun-mo, Director of the Cheonan Addiction Management and Integration Center. "We will continue to expand professional, experience-centered prevention programs and work closely with local residents to create a community safe from addiction."
