SEOUL, South Korea – In a decisive move to solidify South Korea’s position as a premier global travel destination, Shinsegae Department Store, Shinsegae Duty Free, and the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) announced on February 25, 2026, the renewal of their strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This partnership aims to maximize the influx of foreign tourists by leveraging the global phenomenon of K-content and premium retail experiences.

A Proven Track Record of Collaboration
Since the initiation of their partnership last year, the three entities have successfully executed a multifaceted marketing strategy. Central to this effort was the utilization of 'VISITKOREA,' the KTO’s official integrated tourism platform. By providing content in eight languages to users across 200 countries, the collaboration ensured that South Korea remained top-of-mind for international travelers.

The synergy focused on key strategic hubs including Myeong-dong, Gangnam, and Busan—areas identified as the most frequented by foreign visitors. Within these districts, Shinsegae provided curated experiences spanning K-beauty, gastronomy, and lifestyle, coupled with exclusive promotional benefits. Their international reach extended to major global events, including the Osaka Expo in Japan and Luxury Travel fairs in Singapore, where they actively promoted the unique charms of Korean tourism.

2026 Strategy: Deepening the ‘K-Experience’
Building on the success of the previous year, the renewed agreement introduces a more sophisticated and expansive set of initiatives for 2026. The focus has shifted from simple promotion to the development of "Deep K-Culture" programs.

1. Specialized Cultural Programs: Shinsegae Department Store plans to utilize its "The Heritage" and "Academy" facilities at its flagship Main Store to host exclusive K-culture workshops. These programs will offer tourists more than just shopping; they will provide immersive education on Korean traditions, arts, and modern trends.

2. Revitalizing Local Tourism: A key highlight of the new strategy is the expansion of the "Local is Shinsegae" project. This initiative aims to discover and introduce hidden gems and authentic culinary traditions from various regions across Korea. By diverting tourist traffic beyond Seoul, the partnership seeks to stimulate local economies and showcase the diverse beauty of the entire peninsula.

3. Aggressive Global Outreach: To capture the growing demand for international travel, Shinsegae and KTO will double their participation in overseas roadshows and travel marts. This aggressive expansion ensures a consistent brand presence in emerging markets and high-spending travel segments worldwide.

Enhanced Shopping Incentives
To convert cultural interest into economic impact, the partners are strengthening retail benefits. Monthly discount packages and coupons will be tailored specifically to high-demand categories such as K-fashion, beauty, and food.

Furthermore, Shinsegae Duty Free is introducing exclusive "Welcome Packs" for VISITKOREA members, along with tiered shopping vouchers based on purchase amounts. These incentives are designed to provide a seamless and rewarding shopping journey for international guests.

A Vision for the Future
"Through this intensified collaboration, we aim to provide more sophisticated services and diverse content that cater to the evolving needs of global travelers," said a spokesperson for Shinsegae Department Store. "Our goal is not just to attract visitors, but to contribute to making South Korea a world-class, must-visit destination that leaves a lasting impression."

As the global travel market continues to evolve, the continued alliance between Korea’s retail giant and its national tourism agency signals a robust commitment to innovation and excellence in the hospitality sector.
