The weekend event highlighted the Joseon-era statesman’s northern defense legacy with immersive history programs, family activities, and cultural performances.

SEJONG — The historic legacy of General Kim Jong-seo took center stage over the weekend as Janggun-myeon hosted the 14th General Kim Jong-seo Culture Festival at the General Kim Jong-seo History Theme Park.

Organized by the local culture festival promotion committee, the annual gathering honors the historical achievements and patriotic devotion of the prominent Joseon Dynasty military official, who famously spearheaded the defense and expansion of the northern frontier.

Centering on the theme "Embracing the Spirit of the Great Tiger in Sejong," the festival offered attendees an array of hands-on historical and cultural activities. Families and visitors engaged in traditional archery, custom keyboard keycap crafting, and caricature sessions. Participants who completed activities across four designated experience zones earned commemorative stamps to finalize a custom festival postcard.

A standout feature was the "Slow Post Office" initiative, allowing guests to write letters addressed to themselves for delivery in 2027, creating a lasting keepsake from the event. Modern attractions, including an extended reality (XR) horseback riding simulator and a giant board game, drew enthusiastic responses from younger attendees and families.

The day-long celebration was further enriched by artistic showcases, featuring traditional gugak performances, Hanbok fashion displays, and musical ensemble concerts. The festivities also incorporated a special Hangeul culture program hosted in cooperation with the Sejong City Culture and Tourism Foundation.

"Hosting this festival in Janggun-myeon—a district proudly bearing the general’s name—makes celebrating his historic contributions alongside our citizens especially meaningful," said Park Jong-gun, chairman of the festival committee. "We remain committed to growing this event into a premier community-driven cultural festival for all residents to enjoy."
