Cheonan, South Korea – The vibrant city of Cheonan is set to host the third annual "2025 Cheonan Univ-City Festival with Maxsum Festival" on June 20th and 21st. This year, the festivities will unfold around the Cheonan Sports Complex Oryunmun Square, a change from the initially planned Cheonan Citizen Sports Park. The relocation was a proactive measure by the organizers to prioritize public safety, especially in light of nationwide forecasts for the rainy season.
This dynamic two-day event is a unique amalgamation of two distinct celebrations: the "2025 Cheonan Univ-City Festival," a collaborative youth festival involving 12 local universities, and the "Youth Maxsum Festival," a prominent youth cultural content event. The combined festival is meticulously designed as a multi-generational cultural experience, fostering harmony and interaction among all age groups within the community.
A total of 12 prominent universities from the region have partnered with Cheonan City to curate a diverse program of events. These institutions include Baekseok University, Dankook University, Namseoul University, Sangmyung University, Nazarene University, Kongju National University, Korea University of Technology and Education, Baekseok Culture University, Hoseo University, Yeonam University, Soonchunhyang University, and Sunmoon University. Their collective efforts promise a rich tapestry of activities and performances.
A notable adjustment for the "Maxsum Festival" component is the exclusive offering of non-alcoholic beer at designated booths. This decision underscores the organizers' commitment to ensuring a safe and responsible environment for all attendees, mitigating any potential safety concerns associated with alcoholic beverages.
The opening day, June 20th, will be primarily dedicated to the "Univ-City Festival." Highlights include an inter-university song festival, captivating performances by various university clubs, and a grand opening ceremony culminating in the "Univ-City Cheonan Declaration Ceremony." The evening will feature celebratory concerts by popular recording artists such as Punch, Young Posy, and Roy Kim, promising an exciting start to the festival.
On June 21st, the focus shifts to the "Maxsum Festival," centered around the non-alcoholic beer experience. This day will showcase celebratory performances by the winning team of the Univ-City Festival and other stage acts. An open viewing area will be established in front of the stage, allowing attendees to comfortably enjoy the performances while indulging in non-alcoholic beverages and a variety of culinary delights from numerous food trucks.
Beyond the main stage, the Maxsum Festival will offer a plethora of interactive experiences. Visitors can explore booths promoting various schools, departments, and clubs, engage in hands-on activities at dedicated experience zones, and savor diverse offerings from food vendors. Unique workshops, such as beer candle and beer glass making, will also be available. Furthermore, in an effort to promote responsible drinking culture, a virtual drinking experience booth will provide an educational and engaging activity.
A specially curated "Maxsum Zone" aims to serve as a vibrant communication hub for young attendees. Under the theme "A space where communication and 'some' begin with a glass of beer," this zone will encourage interaction through mini-game missions where participants form teams.
Kim Seok-pil, the acting vice mayor of Cheonan, expressed his aspirations for the event, stating, "We hope this 'Univ-City Festival with Maxsum Festival' serves as an opportunity to widely promote the charm of Cheonan as a city where youth and citizens harmonize." He further affirmed the city's commitment to "actively support the creation of a sustainable festival culture led by youth and participated in by citizens."
The festival represents a significant effort by Cheonan City and its academic institutions to foster community spirit, celebrate youth culture, and provide a safe and engaging environment for residents of all ages.
