DAEJEON – The 28th International Conference on Medical Image Computing and Computer Assisted Intervention (MICCAI 2025), a leading global conference in the field of medical imaging, is being held in Daejeon from September 23 to 27. This marks the first time since its founding in 1998 that the prestigious event is being held in South Korea.
MICCAI is a premier academic conference that covers a wide range of topics, including medical image analysis, clinical applications, and medical robotics. This year's event at the Daejeon Convention Center (DCC) has drawn approximately 3,000 experts from over 50 countries, including 2,000 international participants. Organizers say the conference will serve as a significant opportunity to promote South Korea’s medical and biotech industries and to boost Daejeon’s brand on the global stage.
The five-day conference will feature a diverse program, including academic sessions, an industry exhibition, global collaboration forums, and startup presentations. A key focus will be on the latest research at the intersection of medical imaging and artificial intelligence (AI). Leading global companies and research institutions are also showcasing their advanced medical technologies. Participants are expected to share the latest trends and expand their global research networks.
The Korean Society of Medical Imaging Information is the main organizer of the event, with support from the Daejeon Metropolitan City and the Daejeon Tourism Organization. The opening ceremony took place on the morning of the 24th, attended by MICCAI President Marius George Linguraru, Organizing Committee Chair Jin-A Park, and over 3,000 experts and officials.
Choi Sung-A, Deputy Mayor for Political, Economic, and Scientific Affairs of Daejeon City, delivered a welcoming speech, highlighting Daejeon as a "bio-convergence leading city" with top-tier medical institutions, 19 universities, and more than 300 biotech companies in the Daedeok Innopolis. She expressed the city's ambition to become a global hub for innovation in medicine, biotech, and AI, surpassing cities like Boston and Singapore. She also added that MICCAI 2025 would be a crucial moment for positioning South Korea and Daejeon as a global mecca for life science innovation and for disseminating advanced medical technology.
Throughout the conference, attendees will hear keynote speeches from world-renowned scholars and presentations on the latest academic papers and research in medical imaging and robotics. A poster exhibition, startup pitch sessions, and the industry exhibition will run concurrently, creating a space for scholars, industry professionals, and investors to network and collaborate.
Daejeon City plans to use this event to connect medical imaging and AI convergence technology with local strategic industries and to strengthen its status as a leading science city through global networking and partnerships.
