LG Uplus Employees Extend Helping Hand to Visually Impaired Family in Medical Crisis

SEOUL — In a heartwarming display of corporate social responsibility, LG Uplus announced on April 16 that it has donated 5 million won to support a visually impaired household facing an urgent medical crisis. The funds, raised through the company’s signature employee-led donation program, "Love in a Thousand Won," will be delivered via the Korea Federation of the Blind (KBU).

A Lifeline for a Family in Need
The beneficiaries of this donation are a couple with congenital visual impairments who are currently raising a one-year-old child. The family recently encountered a distressing situation when their infant suffered a serious fall. Medical experts have indicated that the child requires extensive pediatric neurological treatment, including physical therapy, neurodevelopmental therapy, and speech therapy, for at least one year to ensure a full recovery.

Upon hearing of the family’s plight, LG Uplus moved swiftly to coordinate with the KBU to provide emergency medical expenses, alleviating the financial burden on the parents who were already navigating the challenges of their own disabilities.

The Power of Small Change: "Love in a Thousand Won"
The donation is particularly meaningful as it originated directly from the pockets of LG Uplus employees. Since its inception in 2016, the "Love in a Thousand Won" program has allowed staff members to donate a small, fixed portion of their monthly salaries toward a collective fund.

While individual contributions may seem modest, the cumulative impact has been profound. As of the end of last year, the program surpassed a cumulative donation milestone of 300 million won. This initiative exemplifies how consistent, small-scale participation can build a significant safety net for marginalized members of society.

Expanding the Horizon of Social Contribution
During the donation ceremony held at the Iroom Center in Yeouido, Seoul, Shin Tae-jong, a senior manager at LG Uplus, and Kim Jae-ryong, Chairman of the Korea Federation of the Blind, reaffirmed their commitment to supporting those in need.

"Our employees are proud to contribute to a cause that brings tangible relief to families facing such difficult circumstances," said a representative from LG Uplus. "We believe that technology and corporate resources should always be used to bridge the gaps in our community."

LG Uplus has signaled that 2026 will be a year of intensified social contribution, with a strategic focus on three core pillars:

Support for People with Disabilities: Prioritizing medical and educational resources.
Public Safety Workers: Recognizing and aiding those who protect the community.
Environmental Sustainability: Addressing climate change and ecological preservation.

A Growing Commitment to Inclusion
By focusing its CSR efforts on the disabled community this year, LG Uplus aims to move beyond simple financial aid, fostering an environment of inclusivity and accessibility. The partnership with the Korea Federation of the Blind is expected to lead to further collaborative projects that empower the visually impaired through both financial support and technological innovation.

As the child begins their year-long journey of rehabilitation, the support from LG Uplus serves as a reminder that the corporate sector plays a vital role in protecting the most vulnerable. For this family, the "Love in a Thousand Won" is not just a donation; it is a beacon of hope for their child’s healthy future.
