The Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has taken a significant step towards strengthening female leadership in the Korean economy by launching the Women Entrepreneurs Committee at its headquarters in Seoul on the 5th. This committee was established to reflect the voices of women entrepreneurs in policy-making and support their active economic participation.

Key Highlights:

Committee Composition: Comprised of 50 female CEOs from various sectors, ranging from mid-sized and small businesses to startups.
The inaugural chairperson is Chung Ki-ok, Chairman of LSC Food (Vice Chairman of the Seoul Chamber of Commerce and Industry).
Vice chairpersons include Park Chang-sook, CEO of Changwoo Textile (Chairman of the Korea Women Entrepreneurs Association), Park Young-joo, Vice President of Asung Daiso, Yoon Yeo-won, CEO of Kolmar BNH, Lee Yoo-kyung, President of Samboo Motors, Park So-young, CEO of Golden Blue, Park Hye-rin, Chairman of BioSmart, and Kim Myung-ja, CEO of SL Electronics.
Background: Korea's female economic participation rate is lower than the OECD average.
The proportion of female CEOs is also lower compared to major developed countries.
The KCCI launched the committee to create a platform for systematically gathering and disseminating the voices of women entrepreneurs.
Future Plans: To conduct various activities to improve the business environment for women entrepreneurs.
To build regional networks of women entrepreneurs in conjunction with 73 chambers of commerce nationwide and strengthen cooperation with related organizations such as the Korea Women Entrepreneurs Association.
To actively participate in social contribution activities such as supporting projects for women in underprivileged groups to participate in economic activities together with the Entrepreneurship Round Table (ERT).
Key Remarks: National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-sik emphasized the importance of women's roles in revitalizing the Korean economy amid structural low growth and pledged support from the National Assembly.
Park Il-joon, Standing Vice Chairman of the KCCI, stated that he would "create a growing cooperation platform for the Women Entrepreneurs Committee by sharing the experiences of female CEOs."

Additional Information:

Comparative data on female economic participation rates and female CEO ratios by OECD countries can provide a clearer picture of Korea's current status.
Specific activity plans and policy proposals of the Women Entrepreneurs Committee will be released through the KCCI website in the future.
The Importance of female entrepreneurship is being emphasized worldwide, with various nations operating programs to support female entrepreneurs.
Organizations such as the Korea Women Entrepreneurs Association exist to protect the rights and promote the growth of female entrepreneurs.
