The Singapore Embassy in Seoul has announced that Singaporean dancers will present an immersive and creative performance for Korean audiences to commemorate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Singapore.
The Singapore-based Human Expression Dance Company, in collaboration with the Singapore Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, and the National Arts Council, will jointly host a special performance titled 'Infinity Closer' at the Seoul Arts Center's S Theater on April 24th at 7:30 PM.
South Korea and Singapore established diplomatic ties in August 1975, marking their 50th anniversary this year. Singaporean Ambassador to Korea Eric Teo expressed his "great pleasure" in seeing a Singaporean arts group commemorate this significant milestone in Seoul. He added that he hopes this performance will contribute to "deepening cultural understanding" between the two countries and their people.
Unlike conventional performances, audiences of 'Infinity Closer' will not simply sit in the audience but will have a special experience of breathing and interacting with the dancers on stage, directly experiencing the artwork. This immersive performance style is highly anticipated to provide audiences with a more vivid and unique artistic experience.
This performance also carries another significant meaning as a symbol of cooperation between Korea and Singapore. Renowned Korean designer Choi In-sook will be responsible for the costume design, showcasing unique attire that blends Eastern beauty with modern sensibilities.
Kuik, the artistic director of Human Expression Dance Company, stated that his company has been developing artistic relationships with Korea in recent years. He added that through this performance, he aims to demonstrate how art can create a space for dialogue and shared humanity between the two nations.
Low Eng Teong, CEO of the National Arts Council Singapore, expressed his organization's pride in commemorating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations with Korea through art. He pledged to further strengthen cultural cooperation between the two countries in the future.
Meanwhile, the Singapore Embassy in Seoul will be holding a quiz event through its social media channels and will offer free tickets to 'Infinity Closer' to 20 winners through a draw. Winners will be notified individually on Thursday.
This 'Infinity Closer' performance is expected to be more than just a cultural exchange. It will serve as a meaningful occasion to reaffirm the friendship and trust that Korea and Singapore have built over the past 50 years through the medium of art and to further solidify future cooperation. In particular, the innovative attempt at audience participation is anticipated to broaden cultural empathy between the people of both countries and contribute to building even closer ties.
