South Korea’s Top Three Mobile Carriers Launch Pre-Orders for Samsung’s Galaxy Z Series with Aggressive Subsidies and Service Bundles

SEOUL — South Korea’s major mobile network operators—SK Telecom (SKT), KT, and LG Uplus (LG U+)—officially initiated nationwide pre-orders for Samsung Electronics’ newest foldable smartphone lineup on July 28, 2026. Featuring the Galaxy Z Fold8, Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip8, the mobile carriers launched an aggressive promotional strategy designed to ease household communication expenses, offer double storage upgrades, and deliver valuable over-the-top (OTT) service bundles.

The week-long pre-order period runs through August 3, 2026, preceding official customer activations and general store availability. To capture early adopters in a saturated premium mobile market, carriers aligned their marketing with consumer content consumption habits, offering tailored service bundles, hardware upgrades, and multi-million-won prize draws.

1. SK Telecom: OTT Integration and Lifestyle Rewards

SK Telecom (SKT) focused its flagship campaign on immersive content experiences, leveraging the Galaxy Z Fold8’s redesigned 4:3 aspect ratio inner display. Tailored to enhance video viewing for movies and television series without intrusive black letterboxing, SKT joined forces with global streaming platform Netflix for a joint marketing initiative.

Under this collaboration, SKT is hosting an extensive promotional draw for pre-order customers who complete activation of any of the three new foldable models by August 31, 2026. A total of 3,055 winners will receive premium lifestyle and entertainment prizes:

Jeju Island VIP Family Trip: 3-night, 4-day luxury travel packages awarded to 5 families.
Style Makeover Experience: Complete image and styling makeovers granted to 50 winners.
Food Delivery Vouchers: 30,000 KRW Baedal Minjok vouchers provided to 1,000 customers.
Exclusive Lifestyle Events: Invitations and limited-edition merchandise for popular marathon and running events.

2. KT: 'Double Storage' Upgrades and 'Choice Double' Subscription Plans

KT structured its promotional campaign around direct monetary value and storage convenience. Every pre-order customer qualifies for the 'Double Storage' promotion, upgrading a 256GB purchase to a 512GB model at zero extra cost. Additionally, KT unveiled its brand-new rate tier, the Choice Double plan.

The Choice Double plan integrates monthly subscription discounts across major digital service providers including YouTube Premium and Netflix, alongside purchase discounts for connected Galaxy ecosystem devices and smart home appliances. Customers enrolling in the Choice or Choice Double plans during the promotional period enter an exclusive raffle featuring premium rewards:

Grand Prize (8 winners): 5-Star Luxury Hotel 2-Night Accommodation Voucher.
Second Prize (80 winners): Shinsegae Department Store Gift Certificate worth 200,000 KRW.
Third Prize (800 winners): Baedal Minjok Dining Voucher worth 50,000 KRW.

3. LG Uplus: Digital Lifestyle Perks and Ecosystem Subsidies

LG Uplus matched its competitors with the Double Storage tier while rolling out its customized subscription package, the Galaxy Simple Pass. Targeted at heavy digital media users, LG U+ integrated Google and Disney partnerships to provide cross-platform utility.

Subscribers opting for the Plus Plan tied with Google One membership receive a 6-month free subscription to YouTube Premium Lite. Furthermore, customers purchasing the flagship Galaxy Z Fold8 can access Disney+ Standard for three months at no additional charge through LG U+’s proprietary subscription management hub, 'Udok'.

4. Strategic Significance & Market Outlook

Industry analysts note that South Korean telecommunication carriers are shifting away from direct price subsidies toward long-term service ecosystem lock-ins. By combining hardware capacity upgrades (Double Storage) with recurring OTT content passes (Netflix, Disney+, YouTube Premium), carriers aim to maintain average revenue per user (ARPU) while offering consumer cost relief amid economic pressure.

Samsung's Galaxy Z8 lineup represents a major architectural step forward for foldable devices. The introduction of the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra caters to power users demanding built-in stylus support, improved thermal management, and top-tier camera optics, while the standard Z Fold8 emphasizes a thinner hinge profile and lighter chassis. The new 4:3 inner screen ratio specifically targets media consumers and multitaskers who demand laptop-like productivity in a portable format.

With telecom storefronts across major commercial districts heavily adorned with promotional signage, competition to secure early adopters will reach its peak prior to the official retail release in early August.
