Performance held on October 23 at the San-di Hall of Jangsu Hannuri Hall, reinterpreting Nongae's life and righteous act with modern sensibility
Combining music, acting, contemporary dance, and media art to upgrade the 2025 premiere work

Sagye Art & Culture (Representative Seo Jin-eun), selected for the "2026 Performing Arts Resident Organization Support Project" by the Jeonbuk State Institute for Culture and Tourism (hereinafter referred to as the Foundation), will present the Nongae creative musical drama "Petals, Flying" at 7 PM on October 23 at the San-di Hall of Jangsu Hannuri Hall.

"Petals, Flying" is a creative musical drama that reinterprets the life and righteous act of Joo Nongae, a historical figure from Jangsu, through contemporary sensibility, connecting local historical and cultural resources with performing arts. The production portrays not only Nongae's final moments but also her journey through love and loss from childhood, leading up to her self-determined choice through music, acting, and dance.

This year's performance builds upon the narrative structure of the 2025 premiere while supplementing the music, choreography, and stage direction. The choreography by contemporary dancer Kim Jae-deok and enhanced fusion orchestra arrangements are incorporated to express Nongae's inner world and resolve.

The stage is divided into a space where actors and dancers move and a space where the orchestra performs. Combining live music and narration, the performance utilizes media art via LED screens to project key imagery of the production—such as Jangsu's nature, petals, waves, flames, and Chokseokru Pavilion—to convey Nongae's life and emotional shifts.

The creative team includes Artistic Director Jin Dong-geun of Sagye Art & Culture, who oversees direction and music, along with composer Jang Dong-in and choreographer Kim Jae-deok. The cast features Seo Jin-eun (Nongae), Terry (Choi Kyung-hoe), and Seo Ji-yu (Nongae's mother), with performances by Rocio Del Sol and the contemporary dance company Modern Table.

Sagye Art & Culture plans to further develop works containing local stories through this rerun, turning them into repertoire that can be showcased in other regions in the future.

Choi Young-gyu, Secretary General of the Foundation, stated, "I hope this performance serves as an opportunity to newly encounter Nongae's life and spirit through the language of contemporary performing arts, and to reflect on the value of Jangsu's historical and cultural resources. We will continue to support local performance venues and arts organizations so they can develop local stories into sustainable creative repertoires."

Meanwhile, the "Performing Arts Resident Organization Support Project" promoted by the Foundation aims to strengthen the creative foundation of local performing arts and expand cultural enjoyment opportunities for residents through cooperation between public performance venues and arts organizations in the province. This year, a total of eight organizations are presenting performances in Jeonju, Gimje, Namwon, Buan, Sunchang, Wanju, and Jangsu, with Sagye Art & Culture operating as the resident organization of Jangsu Hannuri Hall.

Admission is 20,000 KRW for all seats, while Jangsu county residents can view it for 10,000 KRW, and elementary, middle, and high school students as well as visitors aged 65 and older can attend for 2,000 KRW. Those wishing to attend can reserve tickets via text message through Sagye Art & Culture (010-4046-1478) or online via the official Naroo Culture ticketing platform.

For detailed inquiries, please contact the Culture and Sports Division of the Jangsu County Office (063-350-2318).
