Genesis has officially launched the 'GV80 Hybrid' in the domestic market, marking the brand’s very first hybrid model.
On the 6th, Genesis announced the official sale of the GV80 Hybrid. The vehicle is equipped with a parallel hybrid system that combines a 2.5-turbo engine with a starter-generator (P1) responsible for engine starting and power generation, and a drive motor (P2) with a maximum output of 59.1 kW dedicated to driving and regenerative braking.
The system's combined maximum output reaches 352 horsepower, representing an approximately 16% increase over the existing GV80 2.5 Turbo (304 horsepower). The combined fuel efficiency for the 19-inch 2WD 5-seater model stands at 12 km/L, marking a roughly 29% improvement compared to the traditional 2.5 turbo variant.
The new model also introduces a newly developed 7-speed transmission, optimized structurally from the high-capacity rear-wheel 8-speed transmission used in the existing 3.5 turbo model. By increasing the first-gear ratio, the vehicle can reverse by driving the P2 motor in reverse without engaging the engine. According to the research institute's internal tests, it accelerates from a standstill to 100 km/h in approximately 7.1 seconds, and offers a maximum driving range of about 912 km on a single fill of its 76-liter fuel tank.
Genesis has also applied a water-cooled hybrid battery system—a first among Hyundai Motor Group's hybrid systems. This enhancement raises the battery's maximum discharge output and allows for more active battery utilization.
The expanded motor driving range enhances the utility of EV mode. Developed to actively utilize motor driving during situations such as exiting underground parking lots and navigating heavy downtown traffic, it secures a high level of quietness and linear acceleration. Re-acceleration performance at 100 km/h is approximately 18% faster than the GV80 2.5 gasoline turbo, based on internal research institute measurements.
Hybrid-specific features have also been introduced. The AWD model features the 'Hybrid Terrain Performance (HTP)' system, which controls the driving force of the engine and motor in rough road escape scenarios—a first for the Hyundai Motor Group. Additional features include 'Hybrid Hierarchical Predictive Control (HPC)', smart regenerative braking, V2L (Vehicle-to-Load), and stay mode.
To enhance ride comfort and quietness, features such as dual-valve electronically controlled shock absorbers were incorporated. The stiffness of the front and rear springs and the rear stabilizer bar was also adjusted, alongside design implementations to minimize vibration and noise generated by the powertrain.
On this day, Genesis also released the 2027 model year updates, the '2027 GV80' and '2027 GV80 Coupe'.
The 2027 GV80 and GV80 Coupe come equipped with standard features including a Surround View Monitor, Blind-Spot View Monitor, Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist (Reverse), Parking Distance Warning (Side), and Genesis Digital Key 2.
The 2027 GV80 features a larger radiator grille, with the overall length and front overhang each increased by 10mm. Along with the GV80 Hybrid, four new exterior colors and new wheel designs have been added.
The 2027 GV80 Coupe 3.5 Turbo 48V Electric Supercharger model applies high-gloss black accents to key exterior parts, while the interior features new two-tone color seats and blue-accented carbon garnishes.
Lee Si-hyuk, Senior Vice President and Head of the Genesis Business Division, stated, "As Genesis's first hybrid, the GV80 Hybrid secures powerful driving performance and excellent efficiency while delivering EV-level quietness, offering customers a differentiated driving experience. Moving forward, we will continue to provide diverse powertrain experiences, flexibly responding to market changes and meeting customer needs."
