Singapore Positively Assesses Paraguayan Meat Market, Final Report Expected Within 60 Days

The National Service for Animal Quality and Health (Senacsa) of Paraguay has announced that following an audit of Paraguayan meat complexes by Singaporean health authorities, a final report is expected within approximately 60 days.

This evaluation, conducted from March 3rd to 11th, has generated optimism within Paraguay's livestock sector, as it could signify the opening of a strategic Southeast Asian market for Paraguayan beef, chicken, and pork products.

Singapore's 100% Import Reliance on Chicken and Pork Presents New Opportunities for Paraguay

José Carlos Martin, President of Senacsa, expressed confidence in an interview with ABC that Paraguay achieved "very good results" from the Asian delegation's technical evaluation and could receive approval to export various animal products.

Martin highlighted that while the beef market in Singapore is a "niche" market, it is a particularly valuable market for Paraguayan chicken and pork production. "This market imports 100% of its pork and poultry, with no domestic production," Martin explained, emphasizing the potential this market offers for these production sectors.

Statistics provided by Senacsa reveal the substantial size of the Singaporean market. In 2023, the Asian nation imported 200,900 tons of poultry products, primarily from Brazil, Malaysia, and the United States, establishing it as the most in-demand protein.

Additionally, Singapore imported 128,300 tons of pork and 33,500 tons of beef during the same period. These figures underscore the significance of this market as a potential destination for Paraguayan exports, especially considering the Asian country's near-total reliance on imports to meet its domestic meat product demand.

Paraguay Also Pursues Market Access to the Philippines and the United States, Strengthening International Presence

The recent audit focused on verifying the animal health control and food safety systems implemented in Paraguay, a crucial aspect for opening the Asian market. During their stay, Singaporean technicians inspected various refrigeration plants that process beef, pork, and poultry products.

They also held strategic meetings with representatives from key sector organizations, including the Paraguayan Meat Chamber (CPC), the Paraguayan Rural Association (ARP), the Paraguayan Poultry Producers Association (Avipar), and the Pig Producers Association (ACCP), demonstrating a comprehensive approach to the evaluation.

The Singapore opening process is part of a broader strategy to expand markets for Paraguayan meat products. Senacsa has confirmed the visit of a delegation from the Philippines, another major Asian market, scheduled for April, to advance the approval of exports to that country.

The last evaluation of Paraguay by Philippine authorities took place in December 2024, so this visit could be decisive in concretizing the opening of this market. The international audit schedule also includes a key evaluation by the United States, scheduled for the second week of July (14-28), which will determine the continuity of Paraguayan meat shipments to this important trading partner.

The potential approval from Singapore would represent a significant achievement in Paraguay's market diversification strategy for its meat industry, especially considering the specific characteristics of this Asian market. As an economic and logistical hub in Southeast Asia, Singapore not only represents a final market for Paraguayan products but also a potential gateway to the entire region. The positive results of this audit could strengthen Paraguay's international reputation and solidify its position as a reliable supplier of high-quality meat products.
