The Roosevelt Library (Biblioteca Roosevelt) in Asunción, Paraguay, celebrated its 79th anniversary on April 12th, commemorating its historical journey of dedicating itself to fostering knowledge and cultural development within the local community. As part of the Paraguayan-American Cultural Center (CCPA), the Roosevelt Library, established on April 12, 1946, has served as a central pillar of education and culture for nearly 80 years, continuously contributing to the intellectual growth of society.

Opened four years after the establishment of the CCPA, the Roosevelt Library has played a pivotal role in promoting a reading culture and enhancing information accessibility within the local community through its extensive collection and diverse cultural activities from its early days. While actively responding to the changes of the times by expanding digital resources and strengthening online services in line with technological advancements, the library has steadfastly fulfilled its inherent role as a venue for knowledge dissemination and cultural exchange.

Over its nearly 80-year history, the Roosevelt Library has played a decisive role in producing numerous readers, researchers, and experts. In addition to providing a wide range of books and periodicals, it has significantly contributed to enriching the educational landscape of the local community by planning and operating various cultural events and educational programs. Notably, its historical significance is profound as the first library in Paraguay to offer lending services for American books and magazines.

Recently, the library has been expanding its role by introducing innovative spaces and services in line with current trends. By operating maker spaces, including the 'Maker Lab in a Can,' and 'CCPA Tech Spaces' where users can experience virtual reality technology, it provides new learning experiences and creative activity opportunities. Furthermore, as a regional coordination center for the 'American Space,' supported by the U.S. Department of State through the U.S. Embassy in Paraguay, it plays a central role in planning and executing various educational and cultural projects. This demonstrates that the Roosevelt Library has solidified its position as not just a book repository but as a knowledge hub and a center for cultural exchange in the local community.

The 79th anniversary of the Roosevelt Library is expected to be an important occasion not only to commemorate the past but also to solidify its commitment to future progress. It is anticipated that the Roosevelt Library will continue to strive to provide knowledge and information, promote cultural exchange, and cultivate future talent through continuous innovation and active communication with the local community. We support the bright future of the Roosevelt Library, which has contributed to the intellectual growth and cultural richness of Paraguayan society, and hope that it will continue to remain a beacon for the local community for many years to come.
