SEOUL – The 41st International Medical Device & Hospital Equipment Exhibition (KIMES 2026) officially kicked off on March 19 at the COEX exhibition center in Seoul. Running through March 22, this year’s event serves as a premier showcase for the "present and future" of the AI-driven medical ecosystem, marking the largest scale in the exhibition’s history.

The opening ceremony was attended by 24 high-profile dignitaries, including Lee Ju-young, a member of the National Assembly's Health and Welfare Committee; Jung Eun-kyeong, Minister of Health and Welfare; Kim Myung-ho, Director of the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety; and Kim Myung-hee, Vice President of KOTRA.

A Record-Breaking Scale for Global Innovation
Covering a vast exhibition area of 45,000 square meters, KIMES 2026 hosts 1,490 manufacturing companies from 41 countries, including 846 domestic and 644 international exhibitors. Approximately 39,000 products are on display, spanning the entire medical spectrum—from diagnostic imaging and robotics to physical therapy, aesthetics, and healthcare IT.

Leveraging South Korea's robust IT infrastructure, KIMES 2026 has evolved beyond a simple product exhibition. It is now a critical MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) platform where technology, investment, and policy converge to set new global standards for future medicine.

Key Exhibitors and AI Integration
Industry giants and public institutions are showcasing cutting-edge AI integration:

Imaging & Diagnostics: Samsung Medison, DRTECH, LG Electronics, GE Healthcare, and Philips are unveiling AI-enhanced diagnostic tools.
Medical IT: Bit Computer and Ubicare are presenting innovations in digital health records and management systems.
Public Sector: Major organizations such as the Wonju Medical Industry Techno Valley (WMIT), Osong Medical Innovation Foundation (KBIOHealth), and the Korea Health Industry Development Institute (KHIDI) are providing institutional support and showcasing collaborative R&D projects.

Expanding Global Business Horizons
To facilitate international trade, several high-impact events are running concurrently:

GMEP 2026: Hosted by KOTRA, the "2026 Global Medical Equipment Export Meeting" connects 400 domestic firms with 180 buyers from 55 countries. Experts anticipate over 2,500 export consultations during the event.
Strategic Partnerships: The "Medtech Spotlight: New Impact Korea 2026" supports the overseas expansion of digital health startups, while the "EU Business Hub" facilitates matching with innovative European enterprises.
Component Technology: In Hall D, the "Medicomek" exhibition focuses on the backbone of the industry, featuring 60 companies specializing in precision motors, medical polymers, and laser modules.

Specialized Pavilions: Startups and K-Beauty
KIMES 2026 has significantly expanded its niche zones. The Inspire Digital Healthcare Pavilion features 50 startups presenting at the "Inspire Open Stage," offering daily rotating themes to foster practical business networking.

Simultaneously, the BeautyAndDerma Seoul section features over 80 companies. This pavilion highlights the intersection of dermatology and medical technology, reflecting the latest trends in the K-Beauty industry and attracting international aesthetic specialists.

Knowledge Sharing and Academic Excellence
Beyond the exhibition floor, the event serves as a massive academic forum. Specialized conferences hosted by the Seoul Radiological Technologists Association, the Seoul Physical Therapy Association, and the Korean Society of Aesthetic Medicine provide continuing education for practitioners. Seminars covering medical regulations, certification, and global market strategies offer vital insights for industry stakeholders navigating the complex regulatory landscape of 2026.
