ASUNCIÓN, Paraguay – The 10th Paraguayan Film Festival, organized by the Paraguayan Center for Cultural and Artistic Promotion (CCPA), will take place on Wednesday, March 26, Thursday, March 27, and Friday, March 28, 2025, at 8:00 PM at the América Theater (address: José Berges almost Brasil). This event will showcase Paraguayan films released in 2024, celebrating and promoting the richness of the national film industry. Admission is 20,000 Guaraníes per day (cash payment), and tickets can be pre-purchased at the ticket booth from 5:00 PM.

Since its inception in 2015, the CCPA Paraguayan Film Festival has served as a platform for screening Paraguayan cinematic works, contributing to the formation of an audience that appreciates and understands Paraguayan cinema. The 2025 event will feature three feature films and short films spanning various genres and themes, demonstrating the diversity and dynamism of Paraguayan cinema. Each screening will consist of one short film and one feature film.

The screenings include "No entres" by Hugo Cardozo (March 28), "Una sola primavera" by Joaquín Pedretti (March 26), and "Los últimos" by Sebastián Peña (March 27).

Short films to be screened include "La entrevista final" by Fasalien (March 27), "El fiscal" by Andy Romero (March 28), and "Jaguatá animated shorts" by various authors, the winners of the 2024 Jaguatá Contest (March 26).

Director's Comments

In an interview with Última Hora, director Sebastián Peña stated, "The CCPA Film Festival has already become an institution in itself and holds immense value." He added, "This event, as a non-profit cultural space, focuses on cinema and provides an opportunity for Paraguayan and international films to connect with local audiences. Its significance also lies in its continuity. Paraguay has historically struggled to maintain the continuity and integrity of public and private institutions, and it continues to do so."

Peña emphasized that such events are crucial not only for small and medium-sized Paraguayan films but also for larger productions. He noted, "It is very difficult to compete for screening space with large international films in commercial cinemas. Spaces like the CCPA Film Festival allow audiences looking for Paraguayan films to access them at affordable prices."

Los últimos: Sebastián Peña's Documentary Film

The documentary film "Los últimos," directed and produced by Sebastián Peña Escobar, was submitted to international film festivals in Italy, Mexico, and Malta in 2024. The film follows three friends on a journey through the Chaco region, their caustic conversations, and the irony of their sometimes hopeless outlook on life in this complex world. Peña has spent approximately 18 years exploring the Chaco region with ecologists Jota Escobar and Ulf Drechsel, observing and documenting their experiences.

This journey evolved into an adventure saga and a long conversation about the future of the forest and human society. The film is a co-production of La Babosa Cine (Paraguay), Mutante Cine (Uruguay), and La Fábrica Nocturna (France).
