Los Angeles, CA – A 60-year-old woman was killed in a multi-vehicle collision in the Sunland neighborhood of Los Angeles on Tuesday afternoon. The crash occurred around 4:30 p.m. in the 8200 block of W Foothill Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD).

Preliminary investigations by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) indicate that the driver of an SUV was traveling at a high rate of speed and, according to Sergeant Jodie McGee, "ping ponged" off several vehicles before colliding head-on with a Mercedes. The impact resulted in a chain-reaction collision involving a total of seven vehicles, though most were described as sideswipes.

Tragically, a 60-year-old woman, a passenger in one of the vehicles, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity is being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin. The driver of the same vehicle, a 60-year-old man, was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. Another individual, a 35-year-old woman, was also hospitalized for minor injuries.

Sergeant McGee stated that investigators are exploring the possibility that either the male driver or the deceased female passenger of the Mercedes may have experienced a medical emergency prior to the crash, which could have contributed to the accident. However, the exact nature of any potential medical issue and which individual may have been affected remains under investigation. The LAPD is continuing its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision, including determining the precise speed of the SUV and whether any other factors contributed to the crash.
