Beyond Product Sales to Services… The Opening of a New 'K-Beauty Intermediation' Industry

To target foreign tourists looking to experience K-beauty, services connecting cosmetic shopping consultations, hair salon reservations, and styling are emerging. These methods involve selecting products in stores or bundling hair and makeup with photo shoots for sale. The process of assisting everything from product selection to reservations and transportation is establishing itself as a business sector to connect interest in Korean cosmetics and beauty with actual consumption.

According to the travel and beauty industry on the 23rd, NOL World is selling an experiential product combining skincare consultation and Olive Young shopping. After a one-hour consultation on skin concerns, cosmetic ingredients, and application methods, participants compare products in-store. It helps participants create a skincare routine and product list tailored to themselves. This is not a service operated directly by Olive Young, but rather a shopping experience product registered on a travel platform.

The differentiating factor of this product is that it helps with purchasing decisions rather than just introducing popular products. Even for tourists looking to buy cosmetics they encountered online, it is difficult to fully grasp the differences and usage methods for each product. Combining consultation with in-store accompaniment reduces the time spent searching for information. In addition to the cosmetics themselves, it is a structure that sells the knowledge and guidance needed to choose the products.

Some companies are subdividing products by adding transportation and on-site support to beauty experiences. PoshPush suggests styles in advance based on customer photos and connects them with hair, makeup, and studio photography. The base price listed on the official website is $430. Premium products, which include pick-up and a personal manager, are priced between $493 and $530. For the base package, a personal manager can be added for $65.

Even for the same beauty experience, prices vary depending on the level of support desired by the customer. It reduces the burden of directly finding and booking individual hair salons and photography studios, bundling everything from preliminary preparation to receiving the final results into a single itinerary. For tourists, this becomes a product that uses their travel time efficiently, and for operating companies, it serves as a means to sell combined services.

PoshPush also provides information on the makeup and hair products used during the experience. This method leaves product information so that customers can recreate the styling they received from experts even after their trip. In a sense, it adds a touchpoint that leads to cosmetic purchases to what would otherwise be a one-off experience.

There are also business models that exclusively handle the reservation process. Creatrip, a travel platform targeting foreigners, allows customers to send the name, social media link, and desired schedule of their preferred hair salon or nail shop, and contacts the business in Korean to assist with reservations. For customers who haven't decided where to visit, it recommends establishments. If a deposit or prepayment is required, it also guides them through the payment process. This service focuses on handling pre-visit communication and reservations rather than on-site accompaniment.

Seoul Beauty Global provides information on beauty services such as hair, nails, and spas in English, and connects reservations and payments. It is structured so that tourists can preview the facilities and service procedures of businesses before using them. It plays a role in transforming the beauty services provided by individual stores into tourism products that foreigners can search and pay for.
