The South Korean men's national field hockey team has advanced to the finals of the 12th Asian Cup, standing at the final gateway to a second consecutive title. In the last match of the semifinal league held in Rajgir, India, on the 6th (local time), Korea secured its spot in the final with a thrilling come-from-behind victory against archrival Malaysia.

The match was a fierce battle from start to finish. Trailing 1-3 early in the first half due to Malaysia's relentless offense, Korea launched a furious comeback in the third quarter. In particular, Kim Hyun-hong (Incheon City Sports Council), who was in charge of penalty corners, scored two goals to ignite the flame of victory. Oh Se-yong (Gimhae City Hall) and Lee Jung-jun (Seongnam City Hall) each added a goal, demonstrating their resilience by turning the game around to a 4-3 lead. Malaysia mounted a fierce counterattack until the end, but the Korean players held onto their lead with tenacious defense to clinch the final victory.

With this win, Korea recorded 1 win, 1 draw, and 1 loss in the semifinal league, securing their place in the final. Their opponent in the final is the host nation and powerhouse, India. India had already secured the top spot in the semifinal league with a dominant record of 2 wins and 1 draw, advancing to the final first. They showcased their powerful offense, particularly in a 7-0 rout of China.

Korea and India have already met once in this tournament's semifinal league, ending in a 2-2 draw. In that match, both teams played an aggressive game but could not decide a winner. The final is expected to be an even more intense showdown, as it is not just for the championship title but also for a direct ticket to the 2026 World Cup finals.

As the defending champions from the 2022 tournament, Korea is determined to once again prove its status as the strongest hockey nation in Asia by winning a second consecutive title. India, on the other hand, is resolved to avenge their previous encounters with the passionate support of their home fans. The Korea-India final, a battle for Asian hockey pride, is scheduled to take place on the 7th at 8 PM (KST).

The teams ranked from 2nd to 6th in this Asian Cup will earn qualification for the World Cup qualifiers, but with their place in the final, Korea and India are already on the verge of direct entry into the World Cup finals. The interest of domestic fans is focused on whether the South Korean men's hockey team can defeat their archrival India and claim the title of Asian champion.
