Geumsan County in Chungcheongnam-do is significantly increasing its educational activity support to help close learning gaps for children from multicultural families in the region. On the 9th, Geumsan County announced it had provided educational support to 124 children of multicultural families in the first round, and a second round of applications will be open until July 31, promising further assistance. This is seen as a proactive measure to help children from multicultural families receive quality education without financial hardship and grow up healthy.

Eligibility and Support Details

This educational support targets children of multicultural families aged 7 to 18 residing in Geumsan County whose households are at or below 100% of the median income and who do not receive education benefits. The support amount varies by age group, with elementary school students receiving 400,000 KRW, middle school students 500,000 KRW, and high school students 600,000 KRW, disbursed as NongHyup Card points.

These points can be used for various activities directly related to learning. Specifically, they cover reading room fees, learning material purchases, academy tuition, arts and physical education activity fees, and even material costs for vocational training practicals. This demonstrates Geumsan County's commitment to providing practical assistance that goes beyond simple stationery purchases, enabling children from multicultural families to develop their talents and prepare for their futures.

Importance of Educational Support for Children of Multicultural Families

Children from multicultural families often face difficulties in academic achievement and social adaptation due to differences in language and cultural backgrounds as they grow up in Korean society. This gap can be even more pronounced in rural and fishing villages, where educational infrastructure is relatively lacking. Educational activity support helps alleviate these economic and environmental constraints, ensuring equal educational opportunities and fostering an environment where children can maximize their potential.

Experts emphasize that educational support for children from multicultural families goes beyond individual growth, positively impacting social integration and national competitiveness in the long run. The analysis suggests that helping these children grow into healthy members of society and utilize their capabilities will be a significant asset for the future.

Geumsan County's Ongoing Efforts and Future Plans

In addition to this educational activity support, Geumsan County is implementing various other support programs for multicultural families. Centered around the Geumsan County Family Center, tailored programs are being promoted to help multicultural families settle stably and become self-reliant, including Korean language education, interpretation and translation services, parent education, and child development support programs. These efforts focus on proactively identifying and resolving difficulties multicultural families may face, helping them live with dignity as members of the local community.

A Geumsan County official stated, "Through this educational activity support, we hope that children from multicultural families can concentrate on their studies and fully realize their potential." They added, "We will continue to prepare practical support measures that reflect the needs of multicultural families, doing our best to ensure all families can enjoy happy and equal lives."

Geumsan County's educational activity support will provide an important foundation for children from multicultural families to grow into healthy members of our society. For more details on the second round of applications, please contact the Geumsan County Family Center.
