The final round of the "AI Creation Contest," where children and elementary school students directly create fairytales, children's songs, and webtoons utilizing artificial intelligence (AI), has taken place.

The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 24th that it held the finals for the "2026 AI Creation Contest," a major track of the "Nationwide AI Competition," at the Kakao AI Campus.

Held for the first time this year, the AI Creation Contest is designed mainly for preschoolers and elementary school students to create fairytales, children's songs, and webtoons under the theme of "Living in the Future with AI."

To vitalize the domestic AI ecosystem, four types of AI tools developed by Korean companies—"Solar," "Math AI," "Miricanvas," and "Weetoon"—were utilized in the competition.

The preliminary rounds kicked off on June 21 in Busan, followed by competitions in 10 regions nationwide including Incheon, Jeju, Seoul, Wonju, Daejeon, Daegu, Andong, Gwangju, and Jeonju, drawing approximately 1,700 participants.

Participants first received AI ethics education and training on how to use AI tools, then immediately applied what they learned to create their works.

A mentoring group composed of current elementary school teachers supported child participants on-site who were unfamiliar with using AI tools.

This final round was organized as an "AI Creation Festival" for the whole family, with about 300 attendees, including finalists and their families, enjoying various AI experience booths after the competition ended.

Ryu Je-myung, 2nd Vice Minister of Science and ICT, stated, "Through the 'AI Creation Contest,' we have confirmed the interest and potential of future generations regarding AI. We will continue to actively support them so that they can continuously cultivate and grow their capabilities."
