"The Beast" Lands in Beijing: Massive Security Detail Precedes Trump’s High-Stakes Visit

BEIJING – The unmistakable silhouette of the American presidency has appeared on the streets of Beijing. With less than a week to go before U.S. President Donald Trump’s scheduled arrival in China, the advanced guard of the United States Secret Service has begun transforming the Chinese capital into a high-security fortress.

On Thursday, May 7, social media platforms in China, including Weibo, were flooded with sightings of the iconic black armored limousine known as "The Beast," alongside a fleet of heavy-duty Chevrolet Suburbans. The presence of these vehicles, still bearing their distinct "U.S. Government" license plates, has signaled the official start of preparations for what is being called the most significant diplomatic event of the year.

A Mobile Fortress on Beijing’s Highways

According to a report by the South China Morning Post (SCMP), the motorcade was spotted traversing Beijing’s main expressways after being offloaded from U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III transport planes at Beijing Capital International Airport. The arrival of these massive cargo aircraft earlier this week drew significant public attention, as they reportedly carried not only the presidential fleet but also specialized communication equipment, medical supplies, and hundreds of support personnel.

Local netizens expressed a mix of curiosity and awe. "It’s rare to see foreign government plates openly driving through our capital," one Weibo user commented. The sighting confirms that the logistical coordination between the U.S. Secret Service and Chinese security agencies is in full swing.

Inside the 'Wheels of the White House'

The focal point of the convoy is "The Beast," a custom-built Cadillac manufactured by General Motors. Weighing between 15,000 and 20,000 pounds, the vehicle is less a car and more a "mobile bunker." Its armor, a composite of steel, aluminum, titanium, and ceramics, is designed to withstand rocket-propelled grenades and chemical attacks.

The limousine features eight-inch thick plating and multi-layered ballistic glass. Beyond its defensive shell, the interior functions as a mobile Oval Office, equipped with encrypted satellite communications and a direct line to the Pentagon. The motorcade in Beijing is expected to consist of 30 to 50 vehicles, including electronic warfare units designed to jam remote-controlled explosives, an armed counter-assault team (CAT), and a dedicated ambulance carrying the President’s blood type.

A Diplomatic Show of Strength

The visit, scheduled for May 14-15, will see a rare meeting of two of the world’s most powerful armored fleets. While Trump moves in his Cadillac, Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to use his domestic Hongqi (Red Flag) limousine. Although the specifications of Xi’s vehicle remain a state secret, it is known to be a 5.5-meter-long armored titan equipped with advanced encrypted systems, symbolizing China’s own industrial and political might.

Limited Movement, Maximum Security

Due to the immense logistical challenges and the delicate nature of the current geopolitical climate, President Trump’s itinerary will be strictly confined to the Beijing metropolitan area. Sources suggest that no regional travel is planned, ensuring that the security perimeter remains concentrated and manageable.

As the "Beast" patrols the streets of Beijing, it serves as a potent reminder of the weight of the upcoming summit. For the next week, all eyes—and a massive security apparatus—will be fixed on the Chinese capital, awaiting a meeting that could redefine the future of U.S.-China relations.
