Sungshin Women's University (President Lee Sung-geun) is set to host the 9th annual Sungshin Piano Society Regular Concert on April 30th at 7:30 PM KST at the Seoul Arts Center's IBK Chamber Hall. The Sungshin Piano Society, comprised of piano professors, alumni, and current students from the university's College of Music, has been presenting captivating performances since its inception in 2016.

This year's concert promises a unique and highly anticipated musical experience as the Society will present a complete two-piano arrangement of Gustav Holst's renowned orchestral suite, "The Planets." This performance marks a significant occasion as it will be the first-ever complete rendition of this arrangement in South Korea, heightening expectations among classical music enthusiasts.

Holst's "The Planets," a majestic and intricate work, captures the astrological and mythical character of seven different celestial bodies. Each of the seven movements is inspired by a specific planet and its corresponding astrological associations, promising a diverse and emotionally resonant sonic journey for the audience. From the martial energy of "Mars, the Bringer of War" to the serene beauty of "Venus, the Bringer of Peace," and the mystical depths of "Neptune, the Mystic," the suite is a landmark of early 20th-century orchestral music. The two-piano arrangement will offer a fresh perspective on Holst's masterpiece, highlighting the intricate harmonies and rhythmic complexities in a more intimate setting.

Oh Yoon-joo, Dean of the College of Music at Sungshin Women's University, expressed her enthusiasm for the upcoming performance. "The Sungshin Piano Society has consistently engaged audiences with diverse piano ensemble repertoires, each performance showcasing a unique theme and structure," she stated. "This year, we are particularly honored to bring together 16 active pianists, both domestically and internationally renowned, under the banner of Sungshin. This concert will be a testament to their collaboration, unity, and artistic excellence."

The participation of such a large and accomplished group of pianists underscores the commitment and talent within the Sungshin Women's University's music program. The concert not only provides a platform for showcasing the skills of its faculty, alumni, and students but also contributes to the cultural landscape of Seoul by presenting innovative and significant musical events.

Tickets for the 9th Sungshin Piano Society Regular Concert are expected to be in high demand given the unique program and the caliber of the performers. This performance of Holst's "The Planets" in a two-piano arrangement is a must-see event for anyone interested in classical music and promises an unforgettable evening of cosmic musical exploration. The Sungshin Piano Society continues to enrich the musical community with its dedication to presenting exceptional and thought-provoking performances.
