Lima, Peru – December 21, 2024 – The Superintendence of Labor Inspection (Sunafil) has issued a 10-day deadline for the administrators of six shopping malls located in the Grau Avenue Triangle, Lima, to address safety deficiencies found in their establishments.
The inspection, carried out jointly with representatives from the Public Ministry and the Metropolitan Municipality of Lima, revealed several hazards, including outdated fire extinguisher inspection tags, faulty electrical systems, and inadequate maintenance of emergency lighting. The officials also noted a lack of cleanliness and order in some areas, as well as broken floor tiles that posed a tripping hazard.
Sunafil has mandated that the mall administrators update fire extinguisher inspection records, which are required to be checked monthly, and improve the electrical systems to prevent short circuits and potential fires. Additionally, they must ensure that the premises are clean and orderly, maintain emergency lighting, and replace broken floor tiles to prevent accidents during evacuations.
These directives are part of Sunafil's "Christmas-Sunafil in Action for Prevention 2024" initiative, which began in November and involved providing technical assistance to 48 commercial establishments in Mesa Redonda, Las Malvinas, Gamarra, and the Grau Avenue Triangle.
The goal of the campaign is to prevent accidents and ensure safe working conditions in these bustling commercial districts during the holiday season. By addressing safety concerns and promoting compliance with labor regulations, Sunafil aims to protect the well-being of both workers and shoppers.
