Seoul, South Korea – The Seoul Housing Corporation (SH Corporation) announced today that it is seeking design proposals for the redevelopment of Guryong Village in Gangnam District. The project aims to transform the long-standing slum into a modern, nature-integrated community.
Guryong Village, formed in the 1970s and 1980s to accommodate displaced residents during Seoul's rapid development, has grappled with poor living conditions and limited access to urban amenities. The SH Corporation is now seeking to revitalize the area and enhance the quality of life for its residents.
The redevelopment project will involve the construction of a mixed-use development, including public rental, public sale, and private sale housing. The corporation is particularly interested in designs that create a seamless integration with the surrounding natural environment, such as the nearby Guryong Mountain and Umyeon Mountain.
"We envision Guryong Village as a nature-friendly community that coexists harmoniously with its surroundings," said Hwang Sang-ha, president of SH Corporation. "We are committed to providing the residents with a much-needed upgrade in their living conditions and to creating a new landmark for Seoul."
Design proposals must address the development of six blocks, including a mix of residential and commercial uses. The deadline for submissions is March 21, 2025, and the winning design will be announced on March 31.
