San Vicente, Chile - In a strategic move to bolster operational efficiency and elevate safety standards, SAAM Terminals has inaugurated a state-of-the-art crane simulator at its San Vicente Terminal Internacional (SVTI) facility. The investment, totaling approximately USD 500,000, underscores the company's commitment to providing its workforce with cutting-edge training resources.

The newly implemented simulator system, developed by CM Labs, offers a comprehensive and immersive training environment designed to cultivate proficiency in both novice and experienced crane operators. The sophisticated technology integrates dynamic variables mirroring real-world port operations, including nuanced weather conditions, the presence of on-site personnel, intricate vessel movements, and other critical operational factors. By replicating these complexities, the simulator aims to significantly enhance the efficacy and safety protocols of crane operation within the terminal environment.

The system is engineered to provide a high-fidelity simulation of the physical dynamics of actual port equipment, accurately reproducing the forces and motions involved in crane operation. Furthermore, it meticulously recreates the sensory experience of a dynamic port environment, encompassing variations in weather such as rain and wind, the movement of waves, the maneuvering of vessels, and ambient sounds. This level of realism ensures that trainees are thoroughly prepared for the diverse challenges encountered in their daily tasks.

Beyond its deployment at SVTI, SAAM Terminals maintains a significant operational presence in Chile, with facilities in San Antonio, Iquique, Antofagasta, and Corral. Demonstrating a proactive approach to knowledge transfer, four experienced crane operators have already undergone intensive training in Canada. These individuals will now serve as key peer trainers, disseminating their expertise on Ship-to-Shore (STS) and Mobile Harbor Crane (MHC) systems to their colleagues within Chile.

Mauricio Carrasco, Chief Executive Officer of SAAM Terminals, emphasized the pivotal role of the company's employees in daily terminal operations, stating, "Our personnel are entrusted with the responsibility of managing our terminal operations each day, and we are dedicated to ensuring they are equipped to perform their duties with excellence. This simulator represents a cutting-edge solution, and its adaptable design allows us to extend its benefits beyond San Vicente Terminal Internacional to our other operational sites across Chile."

Juan Pablo Santiáñez, General Manager of SVTI, lauded the advanced capabilities of the new equipment, highlighting its "unprecedented levels of graphic and sensory realism. This simulator stands as the most technologically advanced in Chile and ranks among the most sophisticated in Latin America. Our objective is to train or retrain twenty individuals through this system within the current year."

The strategic importance of this technological acquisition was further underscored by Cristian Wulf, General Manager of Empresa Portuaria Talcahuano-San Vicente, who remarked, "The ongoing education and development of our port industry professionals are fundamental to delivering high-quality services to international trade. The fact that the Biobío region is the pioneering location for this advanced training tool serves as a significant impetus for the continued development of our region as a vital logistics hub."

The implementation of the crane simulator underscores the critical role of such technology in modern port operations, where the manipulation of heavy machinery demands exceptional skill and unwavering attention to safety protocols. Simulator-based training provides a secure environment for operators to familiarize themselves with a wide array of operational scenarios and potential hazards before engaging with actual equipment, thereby mitigating the risk of accidents and optimizing operational efficiency.

CM Labs, the provider of the simulator, is a recognized leader in the development of high-fidelity simulation technologies for industries ranging from construction and ports to mining. Their simulators are distinguished by their realistic physical modeling and deeply immersive virtual environments, offering a superior training experience.

This investment by SAAM Terminals reflects the broader trend of modernization within the Chilean port sector. As a key facilitator of South American trade, Chile's economic prosperity is intrinsically linked to the efficiency of its port infrastructure. This initiative exemplifies a proactive commitment to enhancing both infrastructure and human capital within the industry.

The Biobío region, home to the Port of Talcahuano-San Vicente, is strategically positioned as a significant industrial center in Chile. The ongoing development of its logistics infrastructure is a key priority for regional economic growth. The introduction of this advanced crane simulator is anticipated to contribute positively to these development objectives.

SAAM Terminals' commitment extends beyond operational efficiency to encompass environmental stewardship and social responsibility, aligning with principles of sustainable growth. The deployment of this training simulator is a testament to this commitment, fostering a safer and more efficient operational environment, which contributes to the long-term sustainability of the company's terminal operations.
