A comprehensive search operation continued throughout the night of September 8th in an effort to locate the missing crew members from the fishing vessel, Geumseongho, which sank off the coast of Jeju Island. Despite the extensive search, no additional survivors have been found.   

The Jeju Coast Guard reported that the nighttime search, which began at 6 PM on Saturday and concluded at 6 AM on Sunday, involved 46 vessels and 5 aircraft. Search teams deployed 177 flares and focused their efforts on areas predicted to have strong water currents based on tidal data.

The search area is expected to be expanded on Sunday morning, with 53 vessels and 9 aircraft scheduled to participate in the daytime operation. The decision to conduct underwater searches will be made in consultation with the Navy, considering weather conditions and on-site assessments. Additionally, over 400 personnel from the Coast Guard, military, fire department, police, and Jeju provincial government will continue land-based searches on foot and using drones.

The 129-ton purse seiner, Geumseongho, which was registered in Busan, was reported to be sinking at around 4:31 AM on Saturday. Of the 27 crew members on board (16 South Koreans and 11 Indonesians), 15 were rescued by nearby vessels, but two South Koreans unfortunately lost their lives. The remaining 12 crew members (10 South Koreans and 2 Indonesians) are still missing.
