Daejeon City has declared April as the 'Month of Emphasis on Preventing Serious Accidents' and will promote comprehensive measures for the prevention of serious industrial accidents.
April is a period when the risk of serious accidents increases as activity in industrial sites such as construction increases after the thawing season. Accordingly, the city plans to intensively carry out various preventive activities to raise awareness of the prevention of serious accidents and to establish a safety culture in which citizens and the private sector participate together.
To this end, the city has selected and will promote nine detailed tasks under three major strategies: ▲on-site safety inspections, ▲customized prevention education for different target groups, and ▲intensive promotion of serious accident prevention.
First, through on-site safety inspections, the city plans to check the safety management status of industrial sites and prepare improvement measures by operating 'safety and health watchmen,' inspecting the implementation of serious accident prevention measures, conducting risk assessments, and investigating harmful factors in musculoskeletal burden tasks.
In addition, through customized prevention education, the city will strengthen safety capabilities by providing effective education to both the public and private sectors, including construction personnel and public officials in charge of serious accidents.
Furthermore, the city plans to produce and distribute a promotional animation on the theme of serious accident prevention and hold a 'relay resolution rally for serious accident prevention' in which citizens and businesses participate together.
Yoo Se-jong, Head of the Civil Safety Office of Daejeon City, said, "The importance of safety management is being further emphasized since the enforcement of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act." He added, "As serious accidents are irreversible once they occur, we will do our best in prevention activities."
