JEJU ISLAND – The Jeju Coast Guard announced on February 19th that it will be conducting monthly practical exams for powerboat operator licenses from March to November.

A powerboat operator license is required to operate motorboats and yachts with a maximum output of 5 horsepower or more.

To obtain a license, applicants must pass a written exam and a practical exam, and then complete three hours of water safety training.

The written exam will be held three times a week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday) at the Jeju Coast Guard PC test center on the first floor. The available times are 9:30 AM, 10:30 AM, 2:30 PM, and 3:30 PM. Weekend exams are also available on Saturdays from 9 AM to 11 AM. Online registration is available at the Korea Coast Guard's Water Leisure Information website.

The practical exam will be held 18 times a year, once a month for each class, at two locations: the Jeju Boating License Test Center in Iho-dong and the Yacht Boating License Test Center in Dodu-dong.

The Jeju Coast Guard stated that they will conduct on-site inspections of the test centers before the exams to ensure a reliable environment for the public. They also said that they will continue to strive to resolve public grievances and provide active administrative services for the convenience of the public.
