Cheonan, South Korea – Cheonan City convened its first Local Tax Deliberation Committee meeting of 2025 on March 24th at the City Hall's conference room.
During the session, the city appointed and presented letters of appointment to twelve experts in the fields of taxation, accounting, and law, who will serve as committee members for a two-year term extending until 2026.
The Local Tax Deliberation Committee plays a crucial role in enhancing the fairness and transparency of tax administration. Its responsibilities include reviewing pre-tax assessments and appeals, selecting corporations for tax audits, and deliberating on revisions to tax reduction ordinances.
A key agenda item at the meeting was the selection of corporations for regular tax audits. The committee deliberated on this matter and ultimately chose the target companies based on factors such as their tax compliance history, industry type, and business size.
Park Sang-don, the Mayor of Cheonan City, emphasized the significance of the committee, stating, "The Local Tax Deliberation Committee is an important body for realizing tax justice and protecting taxpayers' rights." He further requested the newly appointed members to conduct fair and transparent deliberations based on their expertise and experience.
