[Global Economic Times] The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs will hold the ‘Powdered Rice Processed Food Discount Competition (subtitle: Have a Rice Day!)’ with E-Mart, Naver, and Coupang for four weeks starting October 18.

Powdered rice is a new food ingredient that is a rice variety but has a starch structure similar to wheat. The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs is seeking to stabilize the income of rice farmers and develop the rice processing industry by fostering the powdered rice industry, and has been supporting the development of processed foods using powdered rice since last year. This year, 30 food companies participated in the project and have released 77 types of powdered rice products to date, and a total of 120 types of products are scheduled to be released by the end of the year.

This event was promoted to expand consumer experience with processed foods such as powdered rice ramen, snacks, and beverages that have been released so far, and are sold at a discount of up to 50% through major distribution channels such as E-Mart with good accessibility.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, in collaboration with E-Mart, will hold an event at all E-Mart branches (131 locations) for two weeks from October 18 to October 31. Among them, 70 branches with high sales will hold a product tasting event on weekends when there are many users. , and free powdered rice souvenirs (dishcloths, calendars, doll keyrings, etc.) will be given to buyers on a first-come, first-served basis. In particular, the Seoul Wangsimni branch operates a powdered rice tasting and exhibition store to provide a space to introduce powdered rice, and also holds a gift giving event such as Seongsimdang madeleines through a roulette event.

Online, ‘Powdered Rice Mall’ will be opened on Naver Smart Store and a discount event for processed powdered rice will be held from October 18 to November 17. Additionally, an additional 1,000 won discount coupon will be given to customers who visit Garusal Mall. The same event at Coupang’s ‘Good Store’ will begin a week later, on October 24th, and an additional 1,000 won discount coupon will be provided for discounted items.

Myeong-cheol Choi, Director of Food Policy at the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, said, “The powdered rice products we are introducing this time are products developed and released using powdered rice grown directly by domestic farms.” He added, “Powdered rice products are a recent trend aimed at value consumption such as not only taste but also eco-friendliness. “We ask consumers to actively participate in this discount event as it is suitable for consumption trends.”
