South Korean YouTuber Arrested in Philippines for Alleged Child Exploitation and Trafficking

Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines – A South Korean YouTuber, identified only as "Mr. A" and reportedly in his fifties, has been apprehended in Cagayan de Oro City on June 11, 2025, facing grave charges related to child abuse, exploitation, and human trafficking. The arrest follows an extensive investigation by Philippine authorities into the online activities of the individual, who allegedly cohabited with a 14-year-old Filipino girl and fathered a child with her.

According to reports from Philippine media outlet GMA Network and statements from the Philippine National Coordination Center Against Online Sexual Exploitation of Children and Child Sexual Abuse Material (NCC-OSAEC-CSAEM), the crackdown was initiated after cyber patrols detected a suspicious YouTube channel featuring minors. Subsequent investigation revealed a direct link between the YouTube account and Mr. A. Authorities confirmed that Mr. A had been living with the underage girl, who recently gave birth to a baby boy on April 24. The child, rescued along with the mother, is reportedly two months old and confirmed to be Mr. A's biological son.

The NCC-OSAEC-CSAEM emphasized that "activities on the platform are related to online child sexual exploitation, which is a crime that is strictly pursued and punished." The suspect's YouTube channel was allegedly used to solicit donations from South Korean viewers under the guise of philanthropic work, specifically claiming to provide study rooms for impoverished children in the Philippines. This content has been widely criticized and described as "poverty porn," exploiting the suffering of the poor to generate financial contributions.

Public outrage has surged both in South Korea and internationally following the revelation of these allegations. The last video uploaded to Mr. A's channel was on the same day as his arrest, June 11. Reports indicate that some of his videos even contained references to the minor's pregnancy and the newborn child, including one where a male voice, believed to be Mr. A, stated, "Born on April 24. My first baby."

While police have withheld the suspect's full name, the details emerging from the investigation paint a disturbing picture of alleged exploitation behind a facade of humanitarian efforts. This case underscores the ongoing efforts by Philippine authorities, in collaboration with international partners, to combat online child sexual abuse and trafficking, aiming to protect vulnerable minors from such heinous crimes. The legal proceedings against Mr. A are expected to continue as more details emerge from the ongoing investigation.
