Daejeon, South Korea – The Dong district of Daejeon has announced a temporary ban on vehicle access to Sikjangsan Mountain, a popular destination known for its stunning night views, effective from December 16th until the end of February next year.
The decision comes amid concerns over safety hazards posed by icy road conditions during the winter months. The mountainous terrain and frequent snowfall in the region make the roads particularly susceptible to freezing, increasing the risk of accidents.
"The safety of our residents is our top priority," said Dong district Mayor Park Hee-jo. "While we understand that this temporary restriction may inconvenience some, we believe it is necessary to prevent accidents and ensure the well-being of those who visit Sikjangsan."
The district has implemented this measure as a precautionary step every winter to safeguard visitors. The ban will be lifted earlier if road conditions improve and are deemed safe for vehicular traffic.
To accommodate visitors during the restriction period, the district plans to enhance information on nearby parking facilities and public transportation options. This includes providing clear signage, digital maps, and updated schedules for buses and other public transit services.
