Samsung Unveils 'Galaxy SmartTag3': Enhanced Tracking and Pet Safety Features

Samsung Electronics has officially introduced the Galaxy SmartTag3, its next-generation location-tracking device designed to help users keep tabs not only on personal items like keys and luggage, but also on their pets.

Samsung announced that the Galaxy SmartTag3 will launch sequentially starting in South Korea, expanding to global markets. The latest iteration heavily focuses on features tailored for pet owners to enhance location monitoring and prevent loss.

Boundary Alerts and Location History for Pets

The new "Location Alert" feature allows pet owners to designate specific safe zones, such as a backyard. If a pet wearing the tag enters or leaves the designated boundary, the owner immediately receives a notification.

Additional features include alerts triggered if the tag moves after a connection is lost, along with a "Location History" tracking path. This serves as a useful tool for monitoring pets that wander out through open doors or slip away during outdoor activities.

However, Samsung notes that the SmartTag functions differently from dedicated GPS pet collars. Instead, it relies on nearby devices, Bluetooth, Ultra-Wideband (UWB), and the Galaxy Find Network to track positions.

Triple the Search Range with 60m Compass View

Tracking performance has seen a major boost. Utilizing Bluetooth 6.0 "Channel Sounding" technology, users can check the direction and distance of the tag via "Compass View" from up to 60 meters away—roughly three times the range of its predecessor.

When within 20 meters, UWB technology enables pinpoint location accuracy. For distances beyond direct smartphone connection range, the device taps into the Galaxy Find Network, leveraging over 900 million Galaxy devices worldwide to relay signals anonymously and securely.

Cross-Platform Support for iOS Users

One of the most notable upgrades is iOS compatibility. While previous models were restricted to Galaxy devices supporting SmartThings Find, the SmartTag3 allows iOS users to track and share the tag’s location as well. This makes it significantly more convenient for households where family members use a mix of Android and Apple devices.

The physical design has also been streamlined. The SmartTag3 is approximately 35% smaller in volume and 33% lighter than the previous version, featuring softer, rounded edges alongside dedicated accessories like silicone and loop cases.

Extended Battery Life and Durability

Powered by a replaceable CR2032 battery, the SmartTag3 offers up to 550 days of standard use or up to 790 days in power-saving mode. Built for outdoor durability, it features an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance.

Furthermore, the NFC-based "Lost Mode" lets anyone who finds the tag scan it with an NFC-enabled smartphone to view the owner's contact info and custom message, all backed by end-to-end encrypted location data.

"We reflected consumer demand to easily track everyday items as well as pets, ensuring precise location tracking through the Galaxy Find Network," said Kim Jung-hyun, Executive Vice President and Head of the CX Team at Samsung’s MX Business.

The Galaxy SmartTag3 is available in White and Black, priced at 44,000 KRW in South Korea, with a 4-pack bundle priced at 149,600 KRW.
