Sejong Special Self-Governing City (Mayor Cho Sang-ho) announced that it will provide financial support for germ cell freezing and preservation costs to citizens who are expected to face difficulties in future pregnancy and childbirth due to medical reasons.

This program aims to preserve reproductive capacity by supporting the collection, freezing, and preservation costs of eggs and sperm for individuals expected to experience permanent infertility resulting from impaired reproductive function caused by medical procedures.

Eligible applicants are Korean nationals who are at risk of impaired reproductive function due to medical reasons such as ▲ partial oophorectomy, ▲ orchiectomy, ▲ chemotherapy, or ▲ chromosomal abnormalities.

Supported items include test fees, controlled ovarian hyperstimulation, and germ cell collection, freezing, and initial storage costs.

For these items, 50% of the out-of-pocket expenses will be supported once in a lifetime, up to a maximum of 2 million KRW for women and 300,000 KRW for men. However, applicants must complete their medical expense support application within 6 months of germ cell collection.

Applications for medical expense support can be made by visiting the Nambu Integrated Health Center in person with the required documents, or online via the Public Health Portal e-Health Post (www.e-health.go.kr).
